I have NO idea how to figure this out! I walked 50 minutes with 8 lbs on each ankle, but don't know what that would amount to. Help!!!

Calculate as if you were 16lbs heavier.

The comment about calculate if you were 16 pounds heavier is not right. I dont know the answer but this is wrong. If you were 16 pounds heavier, your weight would not be distributed directly on your ankles; basically you're adding resistance to the muscle movement; a 140 pound person bench pressing a 50lb bar is NOT doing the same work as a 190 pound person benching a 10 pound bar.

Okay, this is only 2 years beyond the posting point, but I just read that a 140 lb woman will burn 38 calories every 10 minutes with 5 lb ankle weights.

User a calorie counting heart rate monitor. I would suggest using a Polar FT4, as this seems to be the most popular.

I would think a HR monitor would be the only way to know for sure.
