I love tracking my food and exercise on this app when I need to reset. I decided to start tracking iron as we are considering another baby. I was very surprised to see you recommended 100 mg of iron per day for me. I have the highest need for iron of any group of people right now at 27 mg, according to the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/basics/vitamins/iron.html.

I'm getting about 50 mg a day mostly from plants and whole grains, according to your calculator.

The risks of overconsumption of iron are real. http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/Iron-HealthProfessional/ I'd hate to think someone might go out and start supplementing because of your website's recommendation.

Please consider checking the programming for iron.

Thanks

Hi
I was also initially confused by this, but then I realized that it's not measuring mg, it's measuring % of daily value (same with calcium). So it's not 100 mg but measuring what % of your iron needs you've met that day.

If I put in a multivitamin with 7.5 mg of iron into my food diary, it says I've met 100% of my daily iron needs. So it appears to me that the program is actually underestimating the daily iron needs of women since that's the recommended amount for men.
