TOPIC: iOS 5.0 App Update

UPDATE: We have just released MyFitnessPal for iOS 5.0.1 to the App Store. If you are having issues with version 5.0, please update as soon as the new version is available on your device.

We believe we have resolved a majority of the crashes many were experiencing. However, we are still working on correcting additional bugs that may have presented in the last update, such as preferences for sorting lists not staying, and viewing past or friends goals showing zero.

If you have updated to 5.0.1 and are still experiencing an issue with the app crashing, please click "Send us an Email" on the right side of this page and send us as much detail as possible, including the type of device, your version of iOS, and a description of the issue.

For all our iOS users who recently updated to version 5.0, please accept our apologies for any problems you are now experiencing. Unfortunately, as can happen, there have been a few bugs that have presented. Please know we are aware of these issues and we are working hard on getting a fix in place. We hope to release a correction update as soon as possible. We will post in this thread once the correction update goes live.

Currently, the main bugs we are aware of, and are working on fixing, are: frequent crashes when using the app, an issue with opening the app for members using iPhone 4 or older, friends' goals and previous goals showing 0, sorting your list not remembering your preference, and an issue viewing longer comments. If you notice any additional problems caused by this update, please send us an email using the link on the right side of this page.

Until the fix update goes live, to help with the crashing or accessing the app, we would recommend trying uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Or as always, you can use our online version of the program at

Please make sure you know your username and password before reinstalling the app. Also, please note that any information that has not previously synced will be lost. First go online to Sign in using the exact same username and password as you do with the app. There you can add any information that has not yet synced. All information visible online should resync to the app after you reinstall it. If you are not finding your account and information online, please do not uninstall and reinstall the app or you will lose your information.

Here's what you need to do to safely uninstall and reinstall the app:

- First, try to sync the app to make sure you data has been backed up. To do this, open the app and login. Then open the menu drawer, and scroll down to the "Sync" item (circle of arrows at the bottom) . If the app reports it has not synced recently, tap the Sync item to force a sync. Make sure your phone is connected to the internet when you are trying to sync. If you are not able to get the app to completely sync, then unfortunately, when you uninstall the app you will lose any changes that you have not recently synced. All previously synced items will reload back to the app after reinstall.

- Next, remove the app by going to the main iPhone/iPod Touch applications screen, finding the MyFitnessPal icon, and pressing your finger down on it until the icon starts to jiggle and an "X" appears. Tap the "X" to delete the app.

- Once the app has been uninstalled, open the App Store (while you have a valid internet connection) and search for "MyFitnessPal", then reinstall the app.

- Finally, once the app has been reinstalled, open the app and login using the same username and login you had been using previously. All previously synced data for your account will be synced from our website back to your phone.
