It would be nice if the acceptable calorie number was a range and not just the number. For example... my calorie goal is 1200. If I'm even 1 calorie under I get a message that I could be harming myself by not eating enough. If I'm even 1 calorie over I get penalized with a red number and a posting that I didn't meet goal. This can be very discouraging. A range, even a 50 calorie one, would offer more chance for success and eliminate the discouraging red alerts.

I agree with what you are saying but I doubt that you should be eating as low as 1200/day. That is very low and most often than not, unhealthy. Google TDEE and if you're trying to lose weight, -10-15% and eat from that #. Figure out your BMR and you should not eat less than that #.

I RARELY eat less than 1200 calories. What I'm saying though is that if I'm only a few calories under I don't think I should be shouted at. And 1200 calories is what myfitnesspal came up with after I entered my data. I didn't come up with that number on my own.

I was given 1200 calories also and I have quite a different body type than Donna, maybe we can adjust that...but it is a goal to shoot for. After Googling TDEE it brought me to the myfitnesspal post from kmcosgrove 115 which makes sense--I'll have to read it again and check out the links. I like the range idea also because you can't get the rah rah from myfitness pal we're looking for, you're either too low or too high. I get my rah rah from Donna, thanks buddy!

I want a range too.

It would be really nice if we could set it so it nags us if we are more than a certain percentage in either direction from our daily goal.

Because lets be real we probably can't count our calories great precision, and this isn't blackjack. 20 over isn't really any worse than 20 under.

Also the subtle pressure to keep under is kinda weird if you're trying to maintain or increase weight.

Good question.

Now get in line behind those waiting for more intelligent notifications for the forum and walls, a cleaned up database including deletion of mathematically impossible records, and a half dozen other basic features we've wanted for many years.

Good grief, this isn't kindergarten. You don't need MFP's approval. If you don't like the message, don't read it.
