I've been very frustrated with trying to enter recipes because it doesn't allow me to search my "Frequent or Recent" foods. And it doesn't allow "tweaking" the amounts of ingredients, once entered. You have to start over and look up the food again. I like to develop recipes as I go and tweak them to achieve the highest degree of nutrition, fiber, etc. I also like to go back later and make other improvements to a recipe - adding new or deleting ingredients. I would also like it if I could change up the order of ingredients listed and insert them in the order I want. Sometimes an important ingredient gets added last, or out of order of the way it would be used in a recipe. I went searching to see if you ever added an improvement for this and ran across the comment below by someone else on your website. As I supposed, there are many others out there who find this very frustrating. PLEASE fix this! thanks!

Ingredients to recipes from "my foods" or own food database/Editing recipes

Lyalya11 Oct 28, 2013 02:24PM PDT

1. There seems to be no option of adding an ingredient to a recipe from either my foods or from memorized "recent" or "frequent" foods. When adding an ingredient to a recipe, I have to look the foods up in database from scratch even though I used these foods before numerous times and have them in my "recent" category. If I am not mistaken and there is really no such option, Myfitnesspal should strongly consider adding this feature on the next update.

2. Inability to edit quantities of items in recipes is very annoying. I already found and added that food, so do not want to look it up all over again. Just want to be able to edit quantities of it. Instead, having to delete the entire item, and add it over again with the right quantity. This is the case even when I made a simple typo on the first entry and hit "save" too fast. Myfitnesspal should improve this and add editing of ingredients function in recipe section just like editing of foods in food diary section.

I agree! Would be nice to be able to edit ingredients without having to delete and re-enter them! It is a pain!

i have ALWAYS hated that. Although i found that when i am using the app on my phone, i CAN click on ingredients and edit the amount, but cannot when i am on the site.... interesting and baffling to me... but helpful?

Yup - I hate that you cant modify your own recipes. That would be a great feature to fix.

yes! I agree with this completely. I can't always afford to cook in exactly the same way - sometimes I have to sub in stuff with what's in the cupboard already, and that means I have to log afresh.

This. This has been asked as long as I've been on MFP. Why has such an easy fix not been changed, but the "WHO'S POSTING ON MY WALL?" option was created?

I'm with you on this one. It drives me mad. The app doesn't seem to have these issues though and you can edit ingredients after adding them and it shows you your frequently used foods.

I agree! I've seen it brought up a few times before so its obviously something that bothers quite a few people. I think its the only aspect of MFP that I find annoying the use.
....also, if you are planning on making the recipe section all awesome and easy to use I would LOVE to have the option to create folders within my recipes, e.g. a folder for soups, for starters, for main courses etc. This is probably too much to ask for but I would find it so helpful as my recipe tab is beginning to get a bit out of hand!

I was going to come post about this too! So annoying not being able to edit your recipes. I would also like the ability to search within your recipes for specific ones, or add recipe categories (why not both?) Would make tracking them so much easier.

Also, why can't we access our recipes from the app?

First off, love the site. Maybe you could make the recipe section like the meal section. So we can see the ingredients and adjust them as necessary. I have been using the meals section for my recipes as it is flexible.

I agree with this - It's been a long-time frustration for me here.

Honestly! I have been screaming my head off for this feature. I had even emailed them.

You can access them from the iPhone/Pod app. Click on More, then Edit Foods & Exercises and you should see My Recipes.

There can't be that big of a difference between the apps on smart phones, is there? I have a droid, and there's no "More" option anywhere; I've also turned over the app a million times trying to find a way to edit recipes. No go.

There is a difference between various platforms
the "more" button on iOS in the latest version is replaced by a "hamburger menu" of 3 stacked lines to access the "extras" like more...

on Android it's in the menu drawer accessed by the < symbol to the left of the MFP logo.

And then on that menu drawer you hit

settings

food and exercises

my recipes

to access the edit option

Only iOS and Android can do the editing of recipes. Not Blackberry (and certainly not the Q10 or Z10 as they don't have an app) and not Windows phone

Pretty buried in the App. For anyone looking in, on Android it actually goes "Settings, Diary Settings, Edit Food and Exercises, THEN My Recipes."

Any input on the being able to edit within the recipe more efficiently?

I agree. So annoying! I really wish it would let you search recent foods and edit quantities!

YUP! Please. Fix this. I enter everything I make into the recipe maker as long as it has more than a few ingredients but I often change the recipe as I go or make it differently the second time.

I need to be able to tweak amounts (like you can on your regular log!) instead of having to delete the ingredient completely to re-enter it properly.

Dumb.

YES! Please make this a possibility! Its SO FRUSTRATING when i accidentally think I'm done and I forgot an ingredient. Then I have to go through and recreate the whole thing!

Come on MFP staff... people have been asking for this functionality for a long time now.

Also, would love to be able to reorder ingredients in a recipe. Sometimes when I am building the recipe I forget a dry ingredient and need to add it...of course, it is the last item on the list. I print out my recipes for future use and if I could "group" all my dry ingredients then list the wet ones...would be a help in the kitchen.

You CAN edit recipes. On the app you go to "settings" then go to "my foods and exercises" then go to "my recipes" and Tah Dahhhh! You can edit, add and it delete ingredients.

Thank you!!!! I just tried it and it works great. This will save me so much time.

How do you add an ingredient that isn't in the database? I'm using coconut sugar instead of regular sugar & it doesn't exist.
