That she doesn't know the difference between your and you're?

If I used "sweet" as a way of rejecting someone, it would mean that I think they're too innocent and conventional for me and would probably end up getting hurt, and I don't want that responsibility.

it really depends. When i say it it pretty much means i appreciate your kind words and you are a nice person but i only like you as a friend. lol

it means she is not aware that it is you're, not your.... otherwise, sounds like she meant you are sweet.... *shrugs*

It means she's hopeless at grammar and that she doesn't want to sleep with you. The end.

Really...? This means friend zone?

It depends on the situation. My husband gets me flowers and I say "You're so sweet"...

I mean...what is the context?

Yup

Disagree.
I tell my boyfriend that. And that's just what I mean.....that he's sweet. It's usually in response to him doing/saying something that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

When I tell a guy "You're so sweet." I am genuinely appreciative of whatever sweet behavior he is displaying and letting him know that I like and care about him because of his sweet behavior. It's definitely a compliment coming from me :)

I'm going out on a limb here... and going to make a wild guess this guy isn't talking about his wife or girlfriend.

This is only loosely related to the topic at hand, but since it's been mentioned in a few responses, I have to ask.

There are GUYS who put women in the Friend Zone? That's actually a thing?
When did that get added to the Man Code? Don't tell me that I'm going to need to break down and read the newest edition.

If I say you're so sweet, it's cause I think you're sweet... huh

I'm going to say that it really depends on the person.

I can't think of a single time that I've used that phrase and meant anything other than the person was nice/thoughtful/etc. I said it numerous times to my husband back when we were just dating (usually because of some thoughtful thing he did). I still say it when he has done/said something nice/thoughtful. I use it as a compliment.

Same! Thank you!

I think context does matter. I might respond with a "you're so sweet" to a guy I was interested in, if, well, ya know, he was actually being sweet.

Best thing to do: avoid "code words/phrases" yourself. Be direct. Say "I think you're extremely pretty, and I'd love to take you out for drinks/dinner. Are you free next Friday?" If she says no, shrug it off and move on. If yes, then high five.

I wish people wouldn't assume that the entire gender does the exact same things.
