Has anybody seen this thing about adding butter and oil to your coffee? Sounds like a recipe for intestinal distress and a spare tire around your middle. http://www.bulletproofexec.com/category/coffee-2/

My father-in-law does this, and he adds salt too! I think it's something from his Army days (Korean War). When I am at their house, I drink tea!

eurgh, I can't see how that could possibly taste nice! I don't even like cream in my coffee!

I would do this only if you'd like your stomach to sound like an aquarium.

AKA- Bubble guts.

One of my friends posted about it on fb, sounds absolutely horrid.

For the most part, butter falls into the "sparingly" food group, but its not inherently bad. I don't know if I would put it in coffee, but then, I'm not a coffee drinker anyway.

While your pediatrician is right, your toddler shouldn't be drinking coffee.
The body needs healthy fats.
Butter is an excellent choice, in reasonable quantity.

For myself, hiking in the Ladakh region of India a couple of years ago, I drank a lot of local tea with yak butter.
Yak butter is butter where they put in the entire yak. 'special. very 'special.

Not a happy camper.

But one gets used to it.

Why not?

I saw butter in coffee (amongst other things) on bizzare foods with andrew zimmerman before. I guess its a common/popular thing in some countries.

It's not appealing to me, but I know of a lot of super ripped people who do it. Butter is really no different than any other kind of fat. When eaten in moderation, it does good things for your body.

Civet coffee is excellent. Just very very smooth with a slight fermented taste. Price makes it a silly thing.

Haha how come its totally accepted to put cream in coffee but unsalted butter is stomach churning? I know people who do it, I do it sometimes but I prefer with coconut oil, if I know its gonna be longer than usual before I get to have lunch :)

I've seen posts on MFP about doing it, mostly from those that follow the Paleo Diet, which is high fat. I guess it's just a way to get more fat in the diet. Sounds disgusting to me.

Butter is dairy. Its only slightly different than cream. Just don't progress any further than butter though. Cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese - these are things you would not want to add to coffee.

I put coconut oil, clotted cream or sometimes butter in my coffee. Tastes fine. There is nothing wrong with butter at all. Real butter is healthier than most oils on the market anyway, I think.

I used to put coconut oil in my coffee and it tasted really good.

If butter and coffee are put anywhere near me together it had better be in a coffee cake...
