In December 2012 I reached maintenance mode. I've lost 25 pounds on MFP. Over the last 3 years I've lost a total of almost 40 pounds--yes, that's very slow weight loss. I'm not in a hurry. I started by just making small lifestyle changes--stairs instead of the elevator, parking farther from the door, 10K steps a day, eat this not that, etc. Counting calories with MFP has taken me the rest of the way. MFP has also motivated me to exercise more and I'm feeling so much better!

I'm not on a "diet." I have a diet which includes a variety of foods.

I don't believe in drastic calorie reduction or the mentality that food, wanting to eat, or being hungry is a bad thing.

I drink alcohol, use real sugar, eat full fat and low fat dairy, carbs, fruit, and dessert, including cake, and thanks to MFP I've learned to do all this in moderation.

I don't believe in eliminating any food(s) unless I'm either a) allergic, or b) repulsed. So I don't eat squid, eel, or tofu.

I have chosen to minimize processed foods, fast foods, and sodas because I feel better and I have less cravings when I have those items less often. I've also chosen to eliminate artificial sweeteners because I have no medical reason to avoid sugar.

I believe exercise should be fun, not a chore, so I don't do anything I don't enjoy. I don't enjoy gyms, group classes, or video programs, so I rarely (if ever) participate in any of those. Yoga is the exception. I do love yoga.

I'm not trying to look 20 years younger, I'm just trying to be healthier and look good for my age. So far I think it's working!

130- 129 (9/17/12)
125- 125 on the nose! (December 2012)

27.5- Dec. 2012

Pant Size: (largest 12-14)
10- (MFP starting size)
8- June 2012 YES!
6-September 2012--THAT'S IT! Don't need to go any smaller, but would like to be able to maintain this size.
4-December 2012...<:/ It depends on the pants, but size 6 in Levi's 505 is way too big, yet I wear an 8 in another brand. Majority of the jeans I have that fit are 4.

Walk/Run a 5K in 45 minutes or less- signed up for the Run Like a Mother, Mother's Day 5K in May--COMPLETE! Unofficial time, 43.45. Official time 42:05!! Ready to register for the next one!

Complete C25K program -- DONE! I'm a C25K Graduate as of 11/12/12!! Woo hoo! Ran the whole 5K today in 34:30! Ready for the real 5K later this month!

Big D 5K, 11/18/12, THIRD PLACE in my group! 35:23 gun time. Thank you, C25K!

Bridge to 10K Program: Started the c2-10K program (same as the c25k program I did) on 12/11/12

Walk/Run a 10k: Ran a 10K and then followed it up with a 1/2 marathon a few weeks later! It was a spontaneous decision and I walked most of the 1/2 marathon, but I finished in 3 hours 5 minutes, so I'm inspired to actually train for a 1/2 at some point and then really run it!

Why I want to get in shape

I'm too young to feel this old.

My Inspirations

  • Approaching 50 and don't want to look it.
  • Prefer to live to a ripe old age without medication as "life support."
  • I've been thin and I've been fat. Thin feels better.
  • Trying to practice what I preach--self care is important!
