About Me
I am a happily married mom of three 20-somethings. My husband and kids are all fit and athletic. I was never really athletic myself, but grew up in the country, so I would call myself "outdoorsy". Growing up in the "Twiggy" era, there was no such thing as too thin, so at 5'8" and 175 lbs, my extended family seemed focused on "encouraging" me to lose weight, which I did over my last summer before college. I was at my smallest @ 155 lbs. when I met my husband the following year. My family still tended to preface any greetings to me with "have you lost any weight?". For this reason I don't do any Weight Watchers, touchy feelly type programs as discussing my weight goals, etc. feels very invasive. Through the years, many challenges and, I think, serious post partum depression, I have gained and gained and now I am 350+ lbs. I don't yo yo diet and I really needed to find something that would work for me long term. I found MFP when I was looking for a calorie counter on line and I am so impressed with this site. It is easy to use, up to date and most of all, for me, it has an excellent Canadian representation. I won't post any tickers (see above....)but I have been using the site since January and so far it's working for me.
Why I Want To Get In Shape
I never was really concerned about age before but when I hit my 50th Birthday, I really felt it! My kids are grown, I am happily married and now is the time that my husband and I focus on us. But....my knees hurt too much to walk more than a block; I don't fit in small (normal) spaces; I am tired and out of breath and I hate how I look in a bathing suit and a photograph. In short, my desire for adventure doesn't meet my capability! The only thing holding me back is me.
My Inspirations
- My children are all in their 20's, athletic and amazingly supportive
- I have cheered from the shore, now I want to stop being a spectator
- When my kids get married, I want to look as good as the rest of them!
