Hi...I'm Dave. I will turn 55 in the summer of 2015. I'm not in a mid-life crisis, but I do know that loosing weight and then managing my weight as well as managing my personal fitness have been more challenging as I got older. Growing older is NOT for Sissies! So in December 2011, I decided it was time for me to "turn the page" and loose the excess weight and improve my fitness. I kicked off my pursuit of better personal fitness and weight loss on Dec 1, 2011.
A few tips on understanding some of my posts. I have a few abbreviations that I often use. Slaying the doughnut is my phrase for hard exercise designed to rid myself of the love-handles and belly that are my dread. I also refer to my wife as my PDFL (that's short for Prom Date for Life). My kids, while infrequently referenced, are known as K1 and K2 (a tip of the hat to Dr. Seuss as well as describing their order of birth. Daughter (26 yo) is K1 and Son (20 yo) is K2.
Why I want to get in shape
I have lived a relatively active life, enjoying exercise and sports. I want to continue these activities for many more years. Improving my fitness and loosing and then managing my weight will allow me to continue to enjoy these activities.
- Not to ignore my health, as did my father (who died too young)
- Be around for my family
- Be more comfortable with my self image
