Time, Weight Loss and Life

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this but as I age I keep thinking about how time seems so long some days and so short other days.

My weight loss (about 70 lbs) took about 4 years, lots of stops and starts, but I never really gained more than about 3 or 4 lbs back in any given week or month.  I stayed true to weighing myself most days because I knew if I stopped I would creep up more than those few pounds.  I decided early on not to freak out about a pound or two gain here and there and attributed it to either sodium, extra carbs or just hormones acting up, even though at my age, do I still even have hormones????

So here's the point of my post..............after over 4 years and some challenging life struggles in the last 2 years I'm still at my lowest weight.............and I have to wonder why sometimes?

Last year my husband was literally sick the entire year and the doctors had a lot of trouble diagnosing what was wrong, we had 2 weddings, one here and one in CO, he had 2 surgeries, lots of work issues that needed to be taken care of for our business.....and I was still able to get my workouts in..............

This month, not so much, but interestingly enough I still haven't gained any weight.  At my age, 67, it feels like a miracle.  But honestly, if I don't make it to the gym or get my walk in I'm just not as hungry as I am on those crazy exercise days...............I try to get some form of exercise in every day but sometimes it just doesn't work and so I seriously am not that hungry..............I think it's interesting reading those hunger cues, not sure I've ever done that before!

Getting back to time, my sister is dying and has very little time left.  She's almost 5 years younger than me and seems to have accepted her fate.............personally I wouldn't be going out without a fight!!!

My advice?  Treasure the time you have and make the most of it while you can!

And yes I know everyone says that, but I really mean it!!!

My story could have mimicked yours, with a few variables, like the fact that I have ten years on you. I couldn't agree with your last two sentences more. Thank you, Lulu.

Reading your blog for the first time. Life really can twist and turn sometimes, can't it! Whole heartedly agree about treasuring the time we have and the people we love. All the best to you.

I am ten years young than you...and 10-16 years younger than siblings. My Mom was an accepter and died young, Dad was a fighter and lived into his 90's. Watching all of them making health/life style choices as they aged was my education. I paid attention.

Like you, I am a fighter and it is reflected in my life story. Despite seeing and understanding the differences is my families personalities...it hurts to watch them self destruct. Knowing they could have done thing over the years to help a current situation and now while they just "deal" with the fate of their choices.

Loosing family is difficult enough...knowing they could have helped themselves just feeds a sense of anger.

Thanks for reading and thanks also for the comments. I'm blogging this experience for two reasons, to help me gather my thoughts and feelings but also to encourage others going through something similar to stay strong for themselves and their families. Our health is our greatest gift and I hope to lead by example for my family and friends to treasure it, nurture it and enjoy it!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings, you are so right about our health being a gift. Reading of your success in not only losing 70 pounds but somehow keeping it off is an inspiration to me. You've done it in spite of all the pressures and challenges that life has thrown at you. I have joked more than once that I quit smoking a little over a year ago and now my body is failing me. But honestly I have failed my body, that can be changed, its not to late to make a healthier me a reality. I too have been loosing family at an unimaginable rate the past couple of years and the fragility of life is not lost on me either.

Is it true that marijuana can actually help to loss weight? I've been hearing people talk about this lately in some forum i cant remember what forum that is but i was pretty curious about they're topic. I have been reading this marijuana strain here in https://www.bonzaseeds.com/blog/gelato/ and all it says that i can help you relax and chill you physically and mentally. Some of them might even help you with depression and anxiety but this issue regarding losing weight when using marijuana is just fascinating. Can you enlighten me with some new information about this?

Thank you for this post. This is the first time I have read any blog post on this site and I am very encouraged by it. I am about your age and have to loose about 40 lbs for my health and it is a scary, daunting task. Reading the comments is helpful too. So thank you.

My story parallels yours in many ways except I am 10 years younger. My mother died from dementia two weeks before Christmas and I don't want to put my family through that. Of all the physical problems she had, all were from obesity and a sedentary lifestyle and I already have many of the same conditions. Thank you for your inspiration.

Thank you for posting. It is so wonderful to hear that it can be done. Taking it off, keeping it off, and keeping it off while bad things happen.

I believe I can do it too.
