Hit My Original Goal Today!!
I've stuck with it for a month!!
New and Loving it
Our tools simply provide you with the information you need to eat healthier and smarter. There's no magic trick involved. People who use our site and stick with it can reach their goals — it's that simple.
Using MyFitnessPal is very simple. Here's how our basic process works:
1. Based on your fitness profile, we'll recommend a daily net calorie target for you to achieve your weight loss (or gain) goals.
2. As you eat and exercise throughout the day, you need to log your meals and exercise in our Food and Exercise diaries. MyFitnessPal will calculate the number of calories you've consumed and burned from exercise and let you know how many calories you have left to eat for the day. If you stick within your calorie limits, you should achieve the weight loss you're looking for.
3. The best part of our system is that logging gets easier the more you do it. MyFitnessPal remembers the foods and exercises you like most and makes it easy for you to add those items to your diary. In just a few days, logging can be as fast as 30 seconds — it's literally that easy.
4. Periodically (we recommend once a week), you should weigh yourself and check-in your new weight with the site using our Check-In feature. Checking in your weight allows us to track your progress over time and also adjust your calorie goals to reflect your new weight.
That's it! Just a few minutes a day can show you so much about what you're eating and how that impacts your health.
For the most part, both applications work very similarly. The data you enter is synchronized across both applications whenever your iPhone/iPod has internet access, so your data will be identical on both as long as you have successfully synchronized. The website does offer additional features and settings beyond what is currently available in the iPhone application. Here are some examples of additional options on the MyFitnessPal website:
- Support forums and tools to communicate with a huge community of other MyFitnessPal members who are also trying to lose weight or get fit.
- Custom tools to measure your BMI or BMR
- Website badges and weight loss tickers to promote your progress
- Additional graphs and reports to monitor your progress
- More settings to allow you to customize your experience or modify your account (change username, change password, etc…)
By using both the iPhone application and the website you can have the flexibility to access your account wherever you are in addition to utilizing the additional features above.
If the iPhone or iPad app is stuck on the "Loading..." screen, turning your device completely off, then back on will fix the problem.
To turn your iOS device completely off, hold down the top power button until the "Slide to power off" switch appears, then slide that red switch to the right. Once your device is completely off, hold the top power button down again until the Apple logo appears. When your phone has finished restarting, open the app again and it should now load properly.
If you have a MyFitnessPal account, then your data is automatically backed up to our servers whenever you launch the app and have a working Internet connection. You can check whether the data is up to date by visiting the website at
www.myfitnesspal.com, logging in with your username and password and reviewing your diary and profile information. Also, if you navigate to the "More" section of the app, you'll see a red message indicating how many changes you've made to the app that have not been synced with the website. If the top row on the "More" tab says "All local changes synced", then all of your changes have been synced with the website.
If you don't have an account, you can create one by launching the app, pressing the "More" button and choosing "Backup to MyFitnessPal.com". This will prompt you to create an account which will allow you to sync your data back to the website and retrieve it when you install a new version of the app.
If you would prefer not to see the News Feed on your home screen, you can turn it off by going to "More" then "Settings" and turn off the item labeled "Show News Feed on Home Tab."
The news feed will be replaced by your daily nutritional summary.
We definitely plan on adding the ability to switch to kilojoules instead of calories in a future update. We can't promise when this will be ready, but it definitely is on our to-do list.
We are planning on adding additional support for metric measurements throughout the site and the apps. For example, you will be able to set your weight loss goals in kg instead of lbs and view exercise speeds in km/hour instead of mph. We're not sure when these enhancements will be ready, but they are definitely on our to-do list.
We set your nutritional target in Net Calories which we define as:
Calories Consumed (Food) - Calories Burned (Exercise) = Net Calories
What that means is that if you exercise, you will be able to eat more for that day. For example, if your Net Calorie goal is 2000 calories, one way to meet that goal is to eat 2,500 calories of food, but then burn 500 calories through exercise.
Think of your Net Calories like a daily budget of calories to spend. You spend them by eating, and you earn more calories to eat by exercising.
Yes, you can access your MyFitnessPal account from almost any web-enabled device. Just go to
http://www.myfitnesspal.com and using your login and password you can connect to your account online. This includes access to your food diary and exercise journal as well as the ability to communicate with our large online community of people looking to lose weight or stay fit. Using your online account, you can also create more detailed reports, print your diary, blog about your progress and more.
Any changes you make on the web or on your device are automatically synchronized as long as your device has internet access — so you’ll have the most up to date data available no matter how you access your account. So feel free to use one, both or go back and forth depending on what works best for you.
Adding a food to your diary is simple. Just take the following steps:
- Press the “Add to Diary” button from your “Home” screen OR go to “My Diary” and press the “Add” button.
- Choose the meal that you would like to add your food to.
- Type in the name of the food you’d like to add into the search box and press the “Search” button. (After you’ve added a food to your diary, you may see it in your “Most Used” items list. This will make it easier for you to add foods that you eat often later on.)
- After you press “Search”, you’ll be shown a list of foods in our database that match your search. Select the item you’d like to add and you should see a screen with more details about that particular food.
- Change the number of servings you ate, if necessary, and the serving size then press “Add” in the upper right hand corner.
That’s it. Your food should be logged in your diary.
To delete a food or exercise item from your Diary, first tap the on-screen "Edit" button.
Each item in your Diary will reveal a red minus sign to its left. Tap the minus sign, then tap the "Delete" button when it appears.
When you are finished deleting items, tap the "Done" button where the "Edit" button originally was.
As a shortcut, you may swipe your finger horizontally across a Diary item to reveal the "Delete" button, without having to enter "Edit" mode.
First, start the add food process just like you would for any other food. Next to the search box, you'll see a blue icon that looks like a barcode. Tap on the icon to activate the barcode scanner. Place the barcode you would like to scan inside the target area on your screen. The scanner will read the code and search for a match in our database. Once the match is found, just add it to your diary.
On rare occasions, you barcode search will return the wrong food from our database. If that happens, you can help us improve the database by telling us the correct match for that barcode. After you see that the wrong food has been found, scroll down on the screen and you'll see a button labeled "Find Better Match". Tap on that button and you can search for the correct food in our database. Once you've found the correct match, add that food to your diary. You've now changed the barcode association in our database. The next time you scan the same barcode the correct food should be found.
Most of us tend to eat the same foods every day for each meal. MyFitnessPal takes advantage of that to make logging your meals easier.
As you log what you've eaten, MyFitnessPal remembers what you like to eat in your "Most Used" list. You can then add any items from that list just by choosing the food you want to add from the list and pressing “Add” from the “Add Food” screen. The more you use the app, the easier it gets!
Foods are added to your Most Used Items list automatically based on how often you add them to your diary. As you add items to your diary, they will appear on your list if you add them frequently enough. There isn't anything special that you need to do to make an item appear on the list.
Yes, you can. Just tap on the "More" section, then choose "Settings", and finally, switch the "Show All Meals For Favorites Lists" toggle to ON. You will now see your favorites lists for all of your meals, not just the individual meal you are adding an item to.
Yes, you can change the meal names and even add additional meals. To change your meal names, login to your account on our website at
www.myfitnesspal.com, then to go "My Home", then "Settings", then "Diary Settings" and you'll be taken to a page where you can edit your meal names. Any changes you make on the website will be immediately reflected on any of our mobile applications, so once you change the meal names on the web, you’ll get the benefit on your mobile device as well.
We don’t currently offer this feature, however, a number of our users have suggested a way to keep track of approximately when you ate a particular food. On the MyFitnessPal website (
www.myfitnesspal.com), you can change the names of the meals that are shown in your diary. So for example, if timing is important to you, you can change the names of the meals from (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, etc…) to periods of time like 9am -11am, 11am – 1pm, 1pm – 4pm, etc… You can even add some additional meals to give you more flexibility (up to 6 different meals per day).
Multi-add allows you to add multiple foods and exercises from your favorites lists and search results all at once. It's a fantastic tool that makes logging your food and exercise even faster and easier.
To enter multi-add mode, just tap the "Multi-add" button while viewing your favorites lists (like Most Used, etc.). Checkboxes will appear next to each food or exercise in your list. Check the items you'd like to add, then hit the "Add Checked" button, and all of the items you've checked will be added to your diary at once.
If you need to adjust the serving size or minutes performed, etc. of a food or exercise before adding it, just tap on the row and you'll be taken to a screen where you can make the modifications you'd like. When finished, hit the "Check" for "Add to Checked" and you'll be taken back to your favorites lists with those adjustments made. You can then make further adjustments or just hit "Add Checked" to complete adding those items to your diary.
If you know how many calories you ate, you can use our Quick Add Calories function to just enter that amount into your diary without having to search for the specific foods that you consumed. It's an easy and fast way to just add calories to your diary without having to look for a specific food.
Our food database contains a combination of foods that we add depending on the availability of information as well as foods that are added by our users. We allow users to both add and share new food items with our community to continue to grow our database and enhance the overall experience for all users. Currently, only foods created on our website (as opposed to created on our mobile apps) are eligible to be shared with the community, however, we may change this in a future version of the application.
It's easy to add a personal food to your database. Just press "Create a New Food" at the bottom of any screen where you search for foods in our database. You'll be taken to a screen where you can add the nutritional information for the food you'd like to add to the database. Once you're finished entering in your data, just press the "Save" button in the upper right hand corner.
To add your new food to your diary, either search for it like any other food or you can add it directly from your “My Foods” tab on the same screen as your food search. For example of searching, if the food you created was called "Mike's homemade apple pie", you could just search for "Mike's apple pie." Your food will appear in the search results, and you can add it to your log like any other food in our database.
To edit or delete a personal food, choose the "More" section of the application, then tap "Edit Foods & Exercises” and ”My Foods”. This should bring up a list of your personal foods. If you select any food in that list, you can edit the details for that food and then re-save it. In addition, if you tap the red button to the left of any food in the list, you can have the option to delete that personal food.
For foods that you regularly eat together, saving them as a Meal lets you easily add them to your diary as a group. For example, you can create a Meal called "Two eggs and cereal breakfast" consisting of two eggs and a bowl of cereal. You can then add "Two eggs and cereal breakfast" at once instead of adding each item separately.
To create a Meal, just add the items for that Meal to one section of your diary, then select the Wrench icon next to the section name (Breakfast, Lunch, etc…), then choose "Remember Meal" in the menu of options that appears. To add a remembered Meal to your diary, just search for it by name (i.e. search for "Two eggs and cereal breakfast") and add it like you would any other food. In addition, you can select the “My Meals” tab on the search for foods screen to see a list of your previously saved meals.
Yes, you can. To edit a meal, first add it to your diary. Then, within your diary, you can make any changes to the meal that you'd like - for example, changing a portion size, or deleting/adding a different food item. Next, tap on the Wrench icon next to the section name and choose the "Remember Meal" option to resave the meal. Finally, choose the "Replace an Existing Meal" option. Choose the meal name you wish to overwrite and that meal will be replaced with the meal you just created.
You can quickly copy the entire contents of a meal to the same meal on another date. Just select the Wrench icon adjacent the the meal's label (Breakfast, Lunch, etc.) and choose "Copy Meal to Today" or "Copy Meal to Date."
To edit a recipe, just tap on the "More" tab, then "Edit Foods & Exercises". You'll see a row labeled "My Recipes" - tap on it, and you'll be taken to a list of all the recipes you have entered in the app. Tap on the recipe you'd like to edit, and you'll be taken to a screen where you can edit your recipe.
Yes, you can. When adding an entry to your food diary, below "Cardiovascular" and "Strength", you'll see a row labeled "Water." Select it and you can record how many cups (8 oz. each) of water you've drunk for the day.
Yes, you can. When adding to your diary, below the row for "Water" you'll see two notes areas — one for food and one for exercise. Select either of those rows and you'll be taken to a screen where you can record whatever notes you'd like on your diary. You can use this area to how you felt that day, or to track vitamins and supplements, or anything else you'd like to remember. All notes will, of course, also be synced to our website so you can access them online and vice versa.
You can print and share your diary using the web version of MyFitnessPal at http://www.myfitnesspal.com.
Once you log in, click the "Food" tab, then "View Full Report (Printable).
We have not yet incorporated these features into our mobile apps but may do so with a future update.
We'd love to be able to allow labels for quick added calories, but unfortunately, it's difficult for us to do for technical reasons. Instead, what many of our users do is add notes in the Food Notes section as a reminder of what the quick calories were for.
Many of the items in our database have been entered in by other members. If you notice an incorrect entry and would like to edit it, you can do so on the website at www.myfitnesspal.com.
Once you've signed in, go to the "food" tab. After you click the "food" tab, a link for the "database" should appear directly under the "food" tab. Click on the "database" link.
Type the item you would like to edit into the "search our food database" and click "search". Find the item in the matching search results and click onto it.
After you click on the item, another page with the item's nutritional information should appear on the right hand side. To the right of the nutritional facts should be a green "edit" button. Click on the "edit" button, and another page should appear. There you should be able to edit the incorrect information. Make sure you click the green "save changes" button when you have finished.
Please note that when you edit an item in the database, you are effectively creating a new food item. If you have logged the original item in the past, the "version" in your Most Used or Frequent list is likely the original version. Adding the item from those lists will add the original values to your diary. For best results, add the item from your "My Foods" list to ensure you are logging the edited version.

Please note that in cases of User-Entered food, only a Calorie value is strictly required. So user entered foods may not provide correct accounting of all nutrients.
Recipes allow you to combine multiple ingredients and then find out how many calories and what amount of nutrients are in one portion, or serving, of that recipe.
To get started, follow the usual steps for logging food in your diary. After selecting the meal, tap the "Recipes" tab above the search area. Tap the "Enter New Recipe Button."
Then, enter the recipe name and the number of servings and tap "Next."
Because recipes contain various kinds of measures (oz, tbs, cups, lbs, grams) there is no way for the recipe editor to calculate how many servings of a particular size will result when the various items are combined.
If you're not sure how many servings a recipe will produce, enter a best-guess number when you first create the recipe.
After the recipe is cooked, you can manually measure the number of servings that have been produced. Then, the recipe can be edited and the correct number of servings can be entered.
The next time you make the recipe in the same way, the recipe in your database will correctly reflect the resulting quantities.
On the following screen, tap "Add Ingredient" and search for the first ingredient in your recipe. Be sure to adjust the "number of servings" of each ingredient to reflect how much of the item you are using in the entire recipe. For example, an entire box of pasta might contain six or eight servings of the serving size listed on the package.
Once all of the ingredients are entered, tap "Save." The recipe will now be available in the "Recipes" tab when you add food to any meal.
Currently, the options in the "Serving Size" area are limited to the options entered when the food item was created in our database. If the MFP team entered it, there may be several options available if you tap the Serving Size field, but if another user entered the item there is typically only one choice.
However, by manipulating the "number of servings" value, you can accommodate for different serving sizes. So, if the serving size was 1 cup, and you use 3/4 of a cup, you could enter .75 as the number of servings and accomplish the same goal.
Also, if the item is listed as a serving size of 10 oz, for example, the serving size menu should also offer a single unit of this measurement. So a 10oz serving should also have the option of 1 oz, which can then be modified, as mentioned above, by adjusting the number of servings.
If you are looking for a different serving size (for instance, ounces versus grams) it's likely that another user has created an item in the database that measures the food you're searching for in the units you prefer. If you examine some of the other items that appear in the search results, you may find one that matches your preference.
We're definitely considering adding better ways to track vitamins, supplements, or medications. In the meantime, many users use the Notes area to record any vitamins/supplements/medications they are taking.
To record a note, start the process of adding an item to your diary but scroll past the meal names and select "Food Notes." You can record whatever notes you'd like, and those notes will then appear in your diary.
Or, if you like, you can also create a new "meal" category and label it something like, "vitamins and supplements". Then "create a new food" with your vitamins or supplements. Then add them in as a food item. To add to or change your meal names, log into your account on our website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com. Sign into the members log in area, using the same username and password you use to log into the app. Once you've logged in, click on "My Home", then "Settings", then "Diary Settings". At the top of that page is an area where you can change your meal names as well as add two additional meals if you'd like.
Once you've saved the changes to your meal names, the next time the app automatically syncs with our website (when there is a valid internet connection), the new meal names will also be reflected in the app.
Yes, you can. The app features "type-ahead" filtering of favorites lists.
When you begin to type your search terms when adding food to a meal, the app will show you matches for the list you're currently viewing. You can tap to other lists to see different results for each lists.
If the food you're searching for is not in your lists, tap the "Search" button on the keyboard to search the entire database.
The MyFitnessPal app can alert you if you have not yet logged food for a particular meal, or for all meals (requires Android 2.2 or later). You can choose the time of day that you would like to receive these reminders.
To begin, go to the "More" page of the app, then tap Settings > My Reminders. Your current reminder are listed on this page.
To add a reminder, tap the "+" button in the top right corner. Select a Reminder Type, and a Reminder Time by tapping the two fields on this screen. When the conditions for the reminder are correct, tap the blue "Save" button.
If the conditions of the reminder are met on a given day, the app will push an alert to your device with the appropriate message.
You can remove items from your Most Used or Frequent list using our full website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com.
Log in to the site using your existing username and password. Then, click "Food" and "Add Food" under any meal.
Click the "Most Used" tab, then check the foods you would like to delete, then click the "Delete from List" button in the lower right.
Please note that when you "delete from list" an item on your Most Used list, you are actually "blacklisting" the item from appearing on the list again. So, it's not a temporary deletion, it's a permanent ban on that food returning to your "most used" list. Users, for instance, who have made a radical change in their eating habits will use this to get the junk food off their list.
If you would like to allow some or all of these items to return to your most used list, hit the "View Deleted Items" button at the bottom of the list. You can place a check next to any foods in the deleted list and then "restore" them to the pool of foods available to accumulate in your Most Used list.
Adding an exercise to your diary is similar to adding a food. Just take the following steps:
- Press the “Add to Diary” button from your “Home” screen OR go to “My Diary” and press the “Add” button in the upper right hand corner.
- Choose either “Cardiovascular” or “Strength” depending on what type of exercise you would like to add.
- Type in the name of the exercise you’d like to add into the search box and press the “Search” button. After you’ve added an exercise to your diary, you may see it in your “Most Used” items list. This will make it easier for you to add exercises that you perform often later on.
- After you press “Search”, you’ll be shown a list of exercises in our database that match your search. Press on the item you’d like to add and you should see a screen with more details about that particular exercise.
- Change the number of minutes you exercised or the number of sets, reps and weight for a strength exercise. When you’re finished press “Add” in the upper right hand corner.
That’s it. Your exercise should be logged in your diary.
Most of us tend to perform the same exercises in our workout routines. MyFitnessPal takes advantage of that to make logging your workouts easier.
As you log what exercises you've performed, MyFitnessPal remembers what you like to do in your "Most Used" exercises list. You can then add any items from that list by selecting that exercise and tapping the “Add” button on the exercise details screen.
Exercises are added to your Most Frequently Used Items list automatically based on how often you add them to your diary. As you add items to your diary, they will appear on your list if you add them frequently enough. There isn't anything special that you need to do to make an item appear on the list.
It's easy to add a personal exercise to your database. Just tap on "Add to Diary" and choose the type of exercise you'd like to add. Next, press on "Create a New Exercise" at the bottom of the search screen. You'll be taken to a screen where you can describe the exercise you'd like to add. Once you're finished entering in your data, just tap the "Done" button.
To add your new exercise to your diary, just search for it like any other exercise or select it from the list “My Exercises” during the add to diary process. For a search example, if the exercise you created was called "leg lifts", you could just search for "leg lifts." Your exercise will appear in the search results, and you can add it to your log like any other exercise in our database.
If you know exactly how many calories you burned from a machine at the gym, you can manually enter that number into your diary. Just search for the exercise in our database, select it from the search results, and type in the exact number of calories you burned in the "Calories Burned" box to the right. That number will be saved in your diary.
Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you performed that exercise, how much rest you took between sets, etc. Because of this, we do not automatically calculate how many calories you burned from strength training exercises.
However, if you'd like, you can add "Strength training" as a cardio exercise to get a rough estimate of how many calories you burned. Please be aware though that this is definitely a rough estimate and can be fairly inaccurate.
To edit or delete a personal exercise, navigate to the “More” section using the section tabs, then select “Edit Foods & Exercises” and “My Exercises”. This should bring up a list of all your personal exercises. Find the exercise you'd like to edit or delete, then select that item from the list. This should bring up details on the exercise you want to edit. You can edit the exercise details and just press “Save” to update. If you want to delete a personal exercise, just press the red button next to the exercise on the “My Exercises” list.
We have not yet incorporated these features into mobile apps, but may do so with a future update.
Our cardio exercise database is always undergoing revision. Currently most of the entries are for standard exercises whose calories are easily calculated with the right personal data such as your weight.
Many popular exercise routines consist of complex series of movements, so the calories burned vary greatly for each individual.
Popular requests that we are already considering adding are:
P90x
Nia
Xbox Kinect
Les Mills
Jillian Michaels
Bikram Yoga
and several others.
We hope to add these items at some point in the future, when we have determined the best way to calculate the calories burned.
In the meantime if you roughly know how many calories you are burning via a heart rate monitor, etc., then you can add the exercise in yourself. Just go to "cardiovascular" and then "create new exercise". This will be for your personal database and not the main database.
Or for a "rough" estimate, you could also try substituting something similar like a dance class or yoga practice already in our database.
When the data reported by your activity tracking device or app shows that your tracker's daily calorie prediction and your estimated daily calories from your MyFitnessPal account are different, we'll adjust your Net Calorie goal accordingly. The "Calorie Adjustment" represents the additional calories you have burned, above and beyond our original estimate. You may also see a negative adjustment if your activity level suggests you are less active than our MyFitnessPal estimate. Because the adjustment value is recalculated every time your tracker uploads new data, you should expect this value to change over the course of the day.
By default, MyFitnessPal will show you only positive calorie adjustments. To permit negative adjustments, log in to the full MyFitnessPal site at
http://www.myfitnesspal.com and click "My Home" then "Settings" then "Diary Settings." Check the box for "Enable Negative Adjustments" then click "Save Changes."
If you are typically unable to sync your device until late in the day, you may wish to leave negative adjustments "off."
To change your diet and fitness goals, just navigate to the “More” section of the app, then select “Edit Profile”. By editing the details within this profile, you will automatically update your fitness goals. If you decide the automatically calculated calorie goal doesn’t work for you, you can manually update the calorie goal to any number you choose on this screen as well. Just select the "Net Calorie Goal" row and you can adjust that number to whatever you'd like.
Yes, you can customize your nutritional goals to whatever you'd like on our website. To change your nutritional goals, login to your account at
www.myfitnesspal.com, then go to "My Home", "Goals", and click the "Change Goals" button at the bottom of that page. Choose the "Custom" option and you'll be taken to a page where you can set whatever nutritional goals you'd like for your account. Any changes you make will be synced to the app automatically the next time the app is connected to the internet.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
Every time you record your weight in our system, MyFitnessPal checks to see if you've lost 10 pounds since the last time your goals were calculated. If so, we'll ask you if you'd like to reset your goals based on your new weight.
We recommended recording your weight and other measurements once a week. Our system will allow you to record them as often as you'd like, but your weight can fluctuate quite a bit daily which is why we recommend a weekly check-in.
You can change the measurements you are tracking by logging into your account on our website at
www.myfitnesspal.com. Once you are logged in, go to "My Home", then "Check-in", then click the "Track Additional measurements" link. On that page, you can add or remove any measurements you'd like to track. Any changes you make will be synced to the app the next time the app is connected to the internet.
Login to your account on our website at
www.myfitnesspal.com, then go to "My Home", "Check-in", then click "Edit previous entries". On that screen, you can edit any previous measurement you've entered. Any changes you make will be synced to the app automatically once the app is connected to the internet.
Unfortunately, setting a new daily calorie goal will affect your historical entries and also change your calorie goal for previous days. We'd like to change this so that we can store a history of your calorie goal, but unfortunately, it's not a simple fix which is why we haven't implemented it yet. But it's definitely on our to-do list.
Since breastfeeding can vary for each woman, we don't currently have a specific recommendation for adjusting your calories if you're breastfeeding. However, if you are able to obtain an estimate for this from your doctor or nutritionist, we do allow you to change your calorie goal to account for the difference.
You can make these changes by logging in to our full website at
http://www.myfitnesspal,comOnce logged in, click on "Goals" then "Change Goals, then select "Custom," where you will be presented with similar options.
If you would like to change the goal back eventually, you can go to the same screen and change it back.
Or if you like, you can also add "breastfeeding" in as an exercise. Once you have your recommendation, then you can add "breastfeeding" in as a cardiovascular exercise. Just go to "cardiovascular" and then "create new exercise". Since this will be an individual estimate, it will be for your personal database and not the main database.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
Pregnancy varies for each woman. Therefore, we don't set a specific guideline. However, if you can obtain a recommendation from your doctor, we do allow you to customize the program around this recommendation.
You can set your own nutritional goals for calories, fat, carbs, and any other nutrient that we track.
You can make these changes by logging in to our full website at
http://www.myfitnesspal,comOnce logged in, click on "My Home", then "Goals", then hit the "Change Goals" button at the bottom of the page. Choose the "Custom" option and you'll be taken to a page where you can set your own targets for all of the nutrients we track.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
We are definitely looking into adding more features to the site and apps for our diabetic users. In the meantime, here are a couple of features we currently have that might help.
If you have specific dietary needs, you can set your own nutritional goals for calories, carbs, fat, and any other nutrient that we track.
You can make these changes by logging in to our full website at
http://www.myfitnesspal,comOnce logged in, click on "My Home", then "Goals", then click the "Change Goals" button at the bottom of the page. Choose the "Custom" option and you'll be taken to a page where you can set your own targets for all of the nutrients we track.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
If keeping to a very strict limit of carbs is important in your diabetes regimen, we recommend using the "total" value calculated in your diary to know when you're reached your goal, rather than the "remaining" total, if you are logging exercises.
If you would like to keep track of blood sugar levels, you can add those as a measurement you are tracking in the "Check-In" area of the site.
Click on "My Home", then "Check in", then "Track Additional Measurements". You'll be taken to a page where you can add whatever measurements you'd like to your account.
Carbs and protein each have 4 calories per gram.
Fat has 9 calories per gram.
Most food labels report Fat, Carbs, and Protein in grams per serving, so this is the value used when totaling your macronutrient goals in the Nutrient Details area of your diary.
However, a gram of fat will move you toward your NetCalorie goal a little more than twice as quickly as a gram of protein or carbs.
For this reason, your macronutrient calorie ratio is influenced by this difference in "calorie density."
The default macro ratio is 55% of calories from carbs, 15% of calories from protein, and 30% of calories from fat. But because the fat grams are more than twice as "dense" as the carb or protein grams, roughly the same number of grams of protein and fat are required to deliver 15% of your calorie goal from protein, and 30% from fat.
When you create your profile, we ask you for information such as your height, age, weight, gender, activity level and how much weight you would like to lose or gain per week. We then use all of this information to determine your daily calorie goal.
Your daily NetCalorie goal does not initially include additional exercise. If you do exercise for the day, we ask you to then record this information in the "cardiovascular" section.
Your daily totals will then increase based on your amount of exercise. The calories added to your daily goal are divided among the various nutrients such as fat, carbs, protein, and subcategories like fiber and sugar.
For more information about NetCalories, please see "What are Net Calories" in the "General" section.
The pie chart in the app is meant to help those who are conscious of balancing their macronutrient ratios. Which is to say, keeping their intake of protein, fat, and carbohydrates in proportion for the course of a day.
So, the pie chart will always add up to 100%, to show the relative amounts of fat, carbs, and protein you have eaten. It will not reflect how much of a macronutrient you still need to consume to meet your calorie goals: that information can be seen by tapping "See All Nutrients." As an example, if the only food you logged so far in your day was a tablespoon of butter, your pie chart would show something like 97% fat, 3% protein against a goal of perhaps 30% fat and 15% protein. This is not to say that you have eaten 97% of your fat goal, but rather that of the calories you've consumed, the vast majority of the calories came from fat. Over the course of the day, if you were to log more foods with carbs and protein, the fat ratio percentage would drop, and the other nutrient ratios would increase.
The default ratios may also be changed by logging in to our site at http://www.myfitnesspal.com and clicking "Goals" then "Change Goals" and then "Custom". For instance, bodybuilders will often set the protein ratio higher, and lower the carb ratio, at certain parts of their training regimen.
Also, please bear in mind that while grams of carbs and protein have 4 calories each, a gram of fat has 9 calories. So fewer grams of fat will gain purchase on the pie chart faster than grams of carbs or protein.

Yes, you can. When your iOS device does not have internet access, you will still have access to a substantial database of foods and exercises. However, any changes you make to your food or exercise diary while offline will not appear on the website until you have an internet connection available and can synchronize those changes.
As long as you created an account (or signed into your account on the app), and as long as your iOS device has an internet connection, the app will automatically any changes you make to the web. To make sure you have created an account, open the app and tap on the "More" tab, then tap "Edit Profile". If the username shown says "Local account", then you have NOT created an account yet and your changes will not be synced or backed up. To create an account, tap on the "More" tab again, then tap the "Backup to MyFitnessPal.com" row.
If the username shown says anything but "Local account", then your changes should be automatically syncing to the website. Just login on our website using the same username and password, and all of the entries you've made in the app should be available.
If you know your username or the email address you signed up with, you can just select the "Forgot your password?" button on the login screen and your username and password will be emailed to you. You can also retrieve your password anytime through our website by using our

To change your time zone in the app, first navigate to the "More" page. Then, select "Edit Profile." The time zone setting is available in the profile options. An incorrect time zone setting may cause your news feed posts or diary dates to behave in unexpected ways. We recommend updating your time zone when you are traveling.
Upon account deletion, there is occasionally a delay of a few days before data is removed from the site. This cannot be relied upon though, and account deletion requests should be considered permanent.
When account data is removed, all "private" content will be removed from the site completely:
Diary Entries (Food and Exercise)
Personal Foods
Account Profile Information (your statistics, and the content describing you on your Profile page)
Blog Posts
Wall posts
Other content, specifically forum posts and personal foods shared with the full database, are considered to be "public", and are not removed as part of account deactivation.

Fitbit is a small, personal activity monitor that records information about your physical activity as you move through your day. By integrating this data with your MyFitnessPal account, we can adjust your Net Calorie Goal dynamically over the course of a day to help you meet your weight management goals with even greater precision
Fitbit Trackers are are available in many retail stores as well as from online resellers. The easiest way to purchase a Fitbit is to visit the App Gallery in your MyFitnessPal app. Tap the "More" page of the app, then "Get Started." Tap the "Fitbit" link, and on the following screen tap "How to Buy."
An email with details will automatically be sent to your registered MyFitnessPal email address, and you can tap "Visit Website" to link directly to fitbit.com.
If you have just purchased a Fitbit, you will need to register it with the Fitbit website before linking it to your MyFitnessPal account.
Visit
www.fitbit.com/start and follow the instructions there for your device. You will also be prompted to create an account at fitbit.com if you do not already have one.
Once you have created a Fitbit account at fitbit.com, launch the MyFitnessPal app and visit the "More" page. Once there, tap "Get Started," then "Fitbit" and finally "Connect."
You will leave the MyFitnessPal app and be taken to Fitbit's web site on your device's browser, where you can authorize the connection between your MyFitnessPal account and your Fitbit account. (If you are not already logged in at fitbit.com, you will need to log in before you can complete the authorization).
Once your accounts are linked, it's important that you log your food and exercise ONLY with MyFitnessPal. We will sync your food and exercise diary information to the Fitbit site for you. Logging food or exercise yourself on the Fitbit website is unnecessary, and will lead to incorrect Net Calorie Goal adjustments. For the best experience with the integration, ALL manual entry of Food and Exercises should take place exclusively on the MyFitnessPal site.
Please note that if you are wearing your Fitbit during the day, we recommend that you NOT log any exercise on your MyFitnessPal Exercise Diary that the Fitbit excels at tracking: this includes walking, jogging, running, climbing stairs or hills, or daily home or office activity.
We do recommend that you log any exercise that your Fitbit's "step-based" system would have trouble detecting accurately, such as rowing or, cycling, and of course activities like swimming during which you cannot wear the device.
CALORIES BURNED
Whenever you sync your Fitbit, we'll retrieve the actual calories burned that you've recorded up to that point in the day.
For whatever portion of the day that you have remaining, we'll use an estimate for your calorie burn based on the activity level that you selected when you initially signed up with MyFitnessPal.
If the total of your actual calories burned (from Fitbit) and your estimated calories burned for the remainder of the day are different than our original estimate for the entire day (plus the total of the exercise calories you've logged), we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly.
The adjustment will be recorded as a cardiovascular exercise labeled "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment". This number will automatically adjust every time you sync your Fitbit so don't be surprised if it changes during the day.
CALORIES EATEN
Whenever you log food on MFP, it will automatically be posted to Fitbit, where it will appear as a meal summary (not individual foods). Your meal summaries will sync starting on the day you linked your two accounts. Historical meal data is not synced to fitbit.com
CARDIO EXERCISE
When you log your cardio exercise on MyFitnessPal, this information is synced to your Fitbit account. It's important to enter the start time of your cardio exercise, so that the data collected by Fitbit during your workout can be correctly reconciled with the exercise calories you are logging.
WATER CONSUMPTION
Water consumption logged at MyFitnessPal will sync to your Fitbit account. This sync only works in one direction, so log your water consumption at MyFitnessPal only.
FITBIT STEPS AND FITBIT SLEEP MINUTES
These items are synced to your MyFitnessPal account and can be viewed at http://www.myfitnesspal.com by clicking "My Home" then "Check-In" on the website, or by tapping the "Progress" area of the iPhone, iPad, or Android apps.
WEIGHT
Weight entries logged at fitbit.com or in your accounts at MyFitnessPal will sync to the other account. This is an important factor in keeping your calorie estimates accurate as your weight changes.
By entering the time you begin your cardio exercise, the calories burned, and the number of minutes you exercised, MyFitnessPal and fitbit.com can correctly reconcile your cardio exercise with the increased activity recorded by your Fitbit during that period of time. Without the start time and the minutes exercised, it is likely that your increased activity level would be accounted for twice: once when you log it on MyFitnessPal, and once when your Fitbit reports increased activity. Entering the start time ensures that your Net Calorie Goal is not adjusted twice for the same cardio workout. The exercise calories you log with MyFitnessPal will replace the calorie data estimated by your Fitbit for that period of time.
There are four data points that you can compare between your Fitbit and MFP accounts to determine if your accounts are syncing properly.
These four items are Fitbit Steps, Fitbit Sleep Minutes, Weight, and the Fitbit Calorie Adjustment (for calories burned).
You can see your Fitbit Steps and Fitbit Sleep Minutes on the "Progress" page of the app. Tap "Weight" to choose other data to display on the graph.
(Note that if you do not attach your Fitbit to the wrist band and set it to stopwatch mode when you sleep, you should not expect to see any Fitbit Sleep Minutes data.)
If you want to verify that the Fitbit Calorie Adjustment is working correctly, please see the FAQ titled "How exactly is my Fitbit Calorie Adjustment Calculated.
Using the stopwatch mode (available on some models) on your Fitbit device during exercise does not cause the device or the fitbit.com site to analyze your activity during that time period any differently. However, the period of time will be highlighted in the fitbit.com dashboard for easier visibility.
The exception to this is that you should set the stopwatch mode when you are tracking your sleep minutes with the Ultra or the One (also place the device in its wrist cuff). The fitbit.com site will combine this stopwatch period with your sleep-based movements to provide analysis of your sleep patterns. Your "Fitbit Sleep Minutes" will also sync to your check-in page on the MFP site, and the Progress area of any mobile MFP app, as a result.
When the data reported by your Fitbit account shows that your daily calorie prediction from Fitbit and your estimated daily calories from your MyFitnessPal account are different, we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly. The "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment" represents the additional calories you have burned, above and beyond our original estimate. You may also see a negative adjustment if your activity level suggests you are less active than our MyFitnessPal estimate assumes. Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by tapping on the adjustment in the app's Exercise Diary (latest app update required). Because the adjustment value is recalculated every time your Fitbit uploads new data, you should expect this value to change over the course of the day.
Enabling a negative calorie adjustment from your integration with Fitbit, MIO, Striiv or BodyMedia will give you the most accurate information about your calorie expenditure for the day. A negative calorie adjustment indicates that you are using fewer calories on a given day than our original MyFitnessPal estimate.
The option for allowing negative calorie adjustments can be found by logging in to your account at http://www.myfitnesspal.com, then clicking My Home > Settings > Diary settings. Check the box for "Enable Negative Adjustments" then click "Save Changes." Your settings will take effect the next time data syncs from your device.
We recommend enabling negative adjustments if:
- you expect to wear your tracking device consistently
- you would like the most accurate calorie feedback MyFitnessPal can provide
- your device is able to sync its data multiple times over the course of the day
We recommend leaving negative adjustments off, if:
- you do not expect to wear your device consistently
- your device can only sync occasionally, or only late in the day
- you wish to use the device only for the motivational experience of earning additional calories
The Fitbit Calorie Adjustment represents the difference we project for your full day's calorie needs, based on data we receive from Fitbit. Because we display this adjustment as an exercise, we must show the "exercise" as having a duration, to meet the expectations of the Exercise Diary's format. The "one minute" duration is only a placeholder that allows us to add the calories to your diary in the form of an exercise.
To understand your Fitbit Calorie Adjustment for any completed day, take your "Calories burned from normal daily activity" on your goals page (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals)
Add to it any exercise calories you've burned as shown in your exercise diary, but don't include your Fitbit Adjustment
Compare that total to your calories burned on your Fitbit (only if it's an entire day's worth of calories)
The difference between the two is your Fitbit adjustment
The adjustment that you see during the course of an incomplete day is a projection made for the entire day, based on the amount of activity currently reported by Fitbit. Your adjustment will become more accurate of the course of the day, each time your Fitbit has a chance to update with your account on fitbit.com.
If you are less active than our MyFitnessPal calculations have estimated, you may receive a "negative" adjustment to keep you closer to your intended Net Calorie goal. If you are more active than our estimates expect, you will receive additional calories in the form of a "positive" adjustment.
Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by tapping on the adjustment in the app's Exercise Diary.
By default, MyFitnessPal will show you only positive calorie adjustments. To permit negative adjustments, log in to the full MyFitnessPal site at
http://www.myfitnesspal.com and click "My Home" then "Settings" then "Diary Settings" then click "Enable Negative Adjustments" then "Save Changes."
If you are typically unable to sync your device until late in the day, you may wish to leave negative adjustments "off."
Here is a more detailed explanation of the way we calculate the projected adjustment before a day is over:
If you only have a partial day's worth of calories on your Fitbit, we calculate how many minutes are left in the day, and we use that to create a projection for how many calories you'll burn today.
The calculation is: Fitbit calories so far for the day + (minutes left in the day / total minutes in a day) * (calories burned from normal daily activity)
So for example, if it's 12 noon, you've burned 1200 calories so far today according to Fitbit, and your calories burned from normal daily activity on MFP is 2000, the projection is:
1200 + (720 / 1440) * 2000 =
1200 + (1/2) * 2000 =
1200 + 1000=
2200
so the adjustment becomes
2200 - 2000 (mfp calories burned from normal daily activity)=
200
For any issues with your Fitbit product, your best resource for support is
http://help.fitbit.comThe support team at MyFitnessPal will be happy to help with any issues relating to the integration between Fitbit and MyFitnessPal, but issues with the device itself, or syncing of data between the device and the fitbit.com website are best handled by the support team at Fitbit.
In general it's fine to link your activity tracker to other services in addition to MyFitnessPal, UNLESS that other service is ALSO linked to your MyFitnessPal account.
For example, if you link your tracker to a running website, and then link the running website to MyFitnessPal, you should not ALSO link the tracker to MyFitnessPal directly. We recommend directly linking your third party devices and apps directly to MyFitnessPal, if that device or app is listed in our App Gallery.
BodyMedia FIT Armbands are highly accurate multi-sensor tracking devices that track your calories around the clock. By integrating this data with your MyFitnessPal account, we can adjust your Net Calorie Goal dynamically over the course of a day to help you meet your weight management goals with even greater precision.
BodyMedia armbands are are available in many retail stores as well as from online resellers. The easiest way to purchase a BodyMedia device is to visit the App Gallery in your MyFitnessPal app. Tap the "More" page of the app, then "Get Started." Tap the "BodyMedia" link, and on the following screen tap "How to Buy."
An email with details will automatically be sent to your registered MyFitnessPal email address, and you can tap "Visit Website" to link directly to bodymedia.com.
If you have just purchased a BodyMedia armband, you will need to register it with the BodyMedia website (and purchase a subscription plan) before linking it to your MyFitnessPal account.
http://bodymedia.com/Support-Help/Get-StartedOnce you have created your account, follow the instructions there to link your BodyMedia armband to your BodyMedia account.
Once you have registered your BodyMedia armband and created an account at bodymedia.com, you can link your BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal accounts as follows:
1. Go to www.BodyMedia.com
2. Press "Log In" in the upper right corner since you already have an account, and enter in your email address and password, then click "Log In".
3. Next click "Activity Manager" in green on the upper right corner.
4. When your Activity manager loads, you will see a tool bar that stretches across the top, that reads: Summary, Tools, Settings, & Apps. Click on "Apps".
5. On the Apps page, you will then see all of the programs you can sync BodyMedia with. In the lower right corner, you will see "MyFitnessPal".
6. You will then be able to link your BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal accounts on the MyFitnessPal page.
After linking BodyMedia to MyFitnessPal, you should log food only to your Food Diary on MyFitnessPal.
However, BodyMedia's multi-sensor armbands are designed to accurately track all of your physical activity. Once you have linked your accounts, and are wearing the armband daily, it should not be necessary to manually log your exercise activity.
The exception to this is any period of thirty minutes or more during which you have not worn the Armband. If you need to account for physical activity (such as swimming) for a period of time during which the Armband was removed, log in to your account at bodymedia.com and specify the activity using the BodyMedia Activity Manager. For best results, log individual activities ONLY at BodyMedia's site, and only for periods during which the Armband was not worn.
When you link your MyFitnessPal and BodyMedia accounts, the data items below will sync between your accounts. Other data (measurements, etc) will not sync and should be entered on both sites if you wish to see this data in both places.
CALORIES BURNED
Whenever your armband updates your account at BodyMedia, we'll retrieve the actual calories burned that you've recorded up to that point in the day.
For whatever portion of the day that you have remaining, we'll use an estimate for your calorie burn based on the activity level that you selected when you initially signed up with MyFitnessPal.
If the total of your actual calories burned (from BodyMedia) and your estimated calories burned for the remainder of the day are different than our original estimate for the entire day (plus the total of the exercise calories you've logged), we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly.
The adjustment will be recorded as a cardiovascular exercise labeled "BodyMedia Calorie Adjustment". This number will automatically adjust every time you sync your BodyMedia so don't be surprised if it changes during the day.
CALORIES CONSUMED
We'll also sync summaries of your consumed calories (per meal) that will appear on your BodyMedia account. Individual food items will not appear at BodyMedia because of the differences in the contents of our food databases. Your meals will be totaled and summarized at BodyMedia so that you get credit for the calories and nutrients of the items logged.
MyFitnessPal pulls your calorie burn directly from BodyMedia’s Activity Manager. If this number is different than MyFitnessPal’s estimate for your daily calorie burn an adjustment will be made to your caloric intake goal. This adjustment can either be positive or negative. If the adjustment is positive, this indicates that your BodyMedia calorie burn for the day is greater than MyFitnessPal’s estimate. If the adjustment is negative this indicates that BodyMedia’s reported calorie burn is lower than MyFitnessPal’s estimate. Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by tapping on the adjustment in the app's Exercise Diary (latest app update required). Because the adjustment value is recalculated every time your BodyMedia armband uploads new data, you should expect this value to change over the course of the day.
For any issues with your BodyMedia product, your best resource for support is
http://www.bodymedia.com/Support-HelpThe support team at MyFitnessPal will be happy to help with any issues relating to the integration between BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal, but issues with the device itself are best handled by the support team at BodyMedia.
At the moment, our integration with BodyMedia does not provide a way for custom meal names on MyFitnessPal to be presented in the food diary information at BodyMedia.
Currently, any food items in meals with custom names on MyFitnessPal will be totaled in the "Snack" category of your BodyMedia account. If you have customized your meals to include options other than Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks, those custom names cannot currently be reflected on your BodyMedia account.
All calories and nutrient totals are preserved: only the custom meal names cannot currently be synced.
To unlink your accounts, launch the MyFitnessPal app and visit the "More" page. Once there, tap "Get Started," then "BodyMedia" and finally "Connect."
You will leave the MyFitnessPal app and be taken to BodyMedia's web site on your device's browser, where you can unlink the connection between your MyFitnessPal account and your BodyMedia account. (If you are not already logged in at bodymedia.com, you will need to log in before you can complete the unlinking).
Endomondo is a smartphone app that tracks duration, distance, calories and more for distance-based activities like running, cycling and walking. By linking your Endomondo account to your MyFitnessPal account, exercises tracked by Endomondo can automatically log to your Exercise Diary and, optionally, to your MyFitnessPal News Feed.
Endomondo's apps are available for download from your device's app store. You can link to them directly from the MyFitnessPal app. Just tap the "More" page, then "Get Started." Then, tap "Endomondo" and finally "Get App." You will leave the MyFitnessPal app and be taken to Endomondo's page in your device's app store.
Once you have created an Endomondo account at endomondo.com, or via one of their mobile apps, launch the MyFitnessPal app and visit the "More" page. Once there, tap "Get Started," then "Endomondo" and finally "Connect."
You will leave the MyFitnessPal app and be taken to Endomondo's web site on your device's browser, where you can authorize the connection between your MyFitnessPal account and your Endomondo account. (If you are not already logged in at endomondo.com, you will need to log in before you can complete the authorization).
Please also verify that at
www.endomondo.com/settings/connect the "Auto Post New Workouts to MyFitnessPal" checkbox is checked and that your Workout Privacy settings at

Endomondo has identified an issue preventing workouts from being published to MyFitnessPal, when posted to Endomondo by other devices or sites linked to your Endomondo account.
In addition to confirming that your accounts are linked (see separate FAQ item) all of the following must be true for a workout at Endomondo to post to a site with whom they partner:
The exercise must:
* Be finished:
# It is finished if it is manually created
# It is finished if it was tracked by an app and the user pressed stop
* Distance must be >= 0.1 km
* Duration must be >= 50 seconds
* Sharing to partner must be enabled
* Start time and end time must be within the last 24h +/-
* Privacy must be set to everyone or friends
MFP workouts also require the following
* Calories must be defined (weight is required in this computation)
* Sport must not be Other as MFP does not have this category
To unlink your accounts, launch the MyFitnessPal app and visit the "More" page. Once there, tap "Get Started," then "Endomondo" and finally "Connect."

The Scosche RHYTHM Pulse monitor attaches to your forearm and tracks your pulse, calories burned, and more, and sends that information via Bluetooth to many iOS and Android devices, and from there to your account at scoche.com. The Striiv Smart Pedometer app logs your steps, activity minutes, distance and calories each day, and offer social connections to your friends who use the app as well. By integrating this data with your MyFitnessPal account, we can adjust your Net Calorie Goal dynamically over the course of a day to help you meet your weight management goals with even greater precision.
The Striiv app is available for download from your device's app store (iOS only, for now). You can link to them directly from the MyFitnessPal app. Just tap the "More" page, then "Get Started." Then, tap "Striiv" and finally "Get App." You will leave the MyFitnessPal app and be taken to Striiv's page in your device's app store.
Be sure you have the latest versions of the MyFitnessPal and Striiv apps installed on your device.
Once you have created an account in the Striiv app, tap the MyFitnessPal icon in their app. You will be taken to a screen where you will be asked to enter your MyFitnessPal username and password. This will link your accounts.
There is a known issue with Striiv's MyFitnessPal integration that prevents the integration from successfully accounting for manually logged exercises in your MyFitnessPal Exercise Diary. If you are integrating with Striiv, logging additional exercises at MyFitnessPal will result in a Striiv Calorie Adjustment that removes the additional calories from your Diary. We are working with Striiv on this aspect of the integration, and will update this FAQ article when the issue is resolved.
Continue to log food as you normally would at MyFitnessPal.
1) Striiv uses the accelerometer in your phone to track you activity level throughout the day. The more you move throughout your day, the more calories you burn. Striiv will periodically update MyFitnessPal based on your actual activity. To get the most accurate calculation, it's best to keep Striiv on, and to keep your phone on your person as much as possible.
2) Since Striiv will calculate your calorie burn based on your actual activity, we recommended setting your activity level on MyFitnessPal to sedentary. Striiv will adjust your full-day calorie projection upwards as you move throughout the day, resulting in your Striiv Calorie Adjustment. To change your activity level, go to
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/change_goals_guided3) To ensure the Striiv Calorie adjustment shown is accurate, if you record a new weight on MyFitnessPal, make sure to change your weight in your Striiv App profile as well.
CALORIES BURNED
While the Striiv app itself will display the number of steps you have taken, the app reports a calorie estimate to your MyFitnessPal account, once the accounts are linked. We use this calorie estimate to update your Net Calorie goal for the day.
The adjustment will be recorded as a cardiovascular exercise labeled "Striiv Calorie Adjustment". This number will automatically adjust every time your Striiv account sends updated data to MyFitnessPal, so don't be surprised if it changes during the day.
When the data reported by your Striiv app shows that your daily calorie prediction from Striiv and your estimated daily calories from your MyFitnessPal account are different, we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly. The "Striiv Adjustment" represents the additional calories Striiv estimates you will burn all day, above and beyond our original estimate. You may also see a negative adjustment if your activity level suggests you will be less active than our MyFitnessPal estimate assumes. Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by clicking the small "i" next to the adjustment in your Exercise Diary (on the full website) or by tapping on the adjustment in the iOS app's Exercise Diary. Because the adjustment value is recalculated every time your Striiv uploads new data, you should expect this value to change over the course of the day.
It's important to note that the "calories burned" score you see in the Striiv app represents only the calories burned during your tracked movement. However, based on your height, weight, age, etc, Striiv is also calculating, in the background, a total calorie estimate for your entire day. It is this estimate that is sent to MyFitnessPal, and we we compare it to our estimate of your calorie usage to derive your Striiv Calorie Adjustment.
Whenever the Striiv app updates this estimate, your Calorie Adjustment will update as well. You may need to launch the Striiv app in order for your tracked activity to update your daily calorie estimate at MyFitnessPal.
The Striiv Play tracking device can be paired with your Striiv app to supply Striiv with additional accuracy and data. The device can record up to sixty days of activity tracking when worn on your person. The Play device uses Bluetooth 4.0 and is therefore compatible with iPhone 4S or later, iPod touch 5th generation and later, and the new iPad (3rd generation/Retina display) and later. For more information about the Striiv Play device, visit this link
http://www.striiv.com/products/striivplay/
Striiv's original hardware device -- The Striiv Smart Pedometer -- is not currently compatible with Striiv's MyFitnessPal integration. Only their Striiv app has the necessary "awareness" of MyFitnessPal to sync data to our site, and their original hardware Smart Pedometer does not have the ability to update data in their app.
Striiv plans to release their Striiv Play device in the near future that is compatible with the Striiv app. Within the Striiv app you can sign up by email learn more about the debut of Striiv Play.

If your total weight loss is not showing correctly on your app's progress graph, the most likely cause is that your starting weight has not been set correctly, or that you have accidentally entered a check-in weight that is way out of range.
You can change your starting weight, or any weight entry, by logging into your account on our website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com. Use the same username and password that you use to login to the app. Once you've logged in, go to the "My Home" tab, then click "Check-in", then "Edit previous entries". On that page, you can change your starting weight to the correct value.
Once your starting weight is correct, the app should show your correct weight loss on your profile once you've synced the app with the site.
To completely close the app, first leave the app by pressing the hardware Home button (the circle with the white square inside of it).
Then, double-click the hardware Home button. A row of application icons should appear on the bottom of the screen. Scroll through them and find MyFitnessPal, then hold your finger on the icon until the icons start to jiggle and a "-" appears. Tap on the "-" to completely close the app.
If your calories burned for an exercise seem incorrect, this could be due to an accidental weight entry. We recommend double checking your weight entries
You can do so by logging into our website at http://www.myfitnesspal.com. Sign into the members log in area, using the same username and password as you do with the app.
Once you've logged into your account, go to "My Home", then "Check-in", then "Edit Previous Entries". On that page, you can view or change your weight entries. Once the entries have been corrected, the next time your app syncs to the website, this change should be reflected and your exercise calories burned should be corrected.
When logged in to the site at
www.myfitnesspal.com you may select the kinds of emails you'd like MyFitnessPal to send. Just click My Home > Settings > Change email address/email preferences
If you are not receiving the emails from MyFitnessPal that you have selected, one likely cause is that at one point our email to you may have bounced back to us.
To resume receiving emails, visit the preferences area mentioned above, and temporarily change your email address to a different email address. Save the changes, then change the email address back to your preferred email address and save the changes again.
If you have the Facebook app installed on your iOS device, please update it to the latest version by visiting the App Store app and tapping Updates. Older versions of the Facebook app will return an error if the Find my Friends using Facebook feature of MyFitnessPal is tapped.
