GENERAL
Q
A. Yes, this site really is free! Unlike a lot of other diet and nutrition websites, you can use ALL of the features of our site at absolutely no cost. We don't have a "premium" membership — all of our features are always available to all of our members. As a MyFitnessPal member, you'll never be charged a cent.
Q
A. Yes, you can! We have lots of members who've successfully reached their weight loss goals and shared their success on our message boards. Here are some sample success stories users have posted:

I've stuck with it for a month!!
New and Loving it
Our tools simply provide you with the information you need to eat healthier and smarter. There's no magic trick involved. People who use our site and stick with it can reach their goals — it's that simple.
Q
A. Using MyFitnessPal is very simple. Here's how our basic process works:
1. Based on your fitness profile, we'll recommend a daily net calorie target for you to achieve your weight loss (or gain) goals.
2. As you eat and exercise throughout the day, you need to log your meals and exercise in our Food and Exercise diaries. MyFitnessPal will calculate the number of calories you've consumed and burned from exercise and let you know how many calories you have left to eat for the day. If you stick within your calorie limits, you should achieve the weight loss you're looking for.
3. The best part of our system is that logging gets easier the more you do it. MyFitnessPal remembers the foods and exercises you like most and makes it easy for you to add those items to your diary. In just a few days, logging can be as fast as 30 seconds — it's literally that easy.
4. Periodically (we recommend once a week), you should weigh yourself and check-in your new weight with the site using our Check-In feature. Checking in your weight allows us to track your progress over time and also adjust your calorie goals to reflect your new weight.
That's it! Just a few minutes a day can show you so much about what you're eating and how that impacts your health.
Q
A. Keeping up with MyFitnessPal is easy. Become a fan of MyFitnessPal on Facebook, or follow @myfitnesspal on Twitter. You can also subscribe to our blog.
Q
A. We definitely plan on adding the ability to switch to kilojoules instead of calories in a future update. We can't promise when this will be ready, but it definitely is on our to-do list.
Q
A. We are planning on adding additional support for metric measurements throughout the site and the apps. For example, you will be able to set your weight loss goals in kg instead of lbs and view exercise speeds in km/hour instead of mph. We're not sure when these enhancements will be ready, but they are definitely on our to-do list.
Q
A. We set your nutritional target in Net Calories which we define as:
Calories Consumed (Food) - Calories Burned (Exercise) = Net Calories
What that means is that if you exercise, you will be able to eat more for that day. For example, if your Net Calorie goal is 2000 calories, one way to meet that goal is to eat 2,500 calories of food, but then burn 500 calories through exercise.
Think of your Net Calories like a daily budget of calories to spend. You spend them by eating, and you earn more calories to eat by exercising.
FOOD DIARY AND FOOD DATABASE
Q
A. To add a food to your food diary, just take the following steps:
1. Click on the "Food" tab to go to your diary, then click on "Add Food" under the meal you'd like to log.
2. Type in the name of the food you'd like to add into the search box and click "Search."
3. You'll be shown a list of foods in our database that match your query. Click on the item you'd like to add, and that food should appear in the grey box to the right.
4. Enter in the number of servings you ate and the serving size, then click
"Add Food to Diary."
That's it! Your food should now be logged in your diary.
Q
A. Most of us tend to eat the same foods every day for each meal. MyFitnessPal takes advantage of that to make logging your meals easier.
As you log what you've eaten, MyFitnessPal remembers what you like to eat in your "Most Frequently Used Items" list. You can then add any items from those list just by checking the box and clicking the "Add Checked Items To Meal" button.
The more you log, the easier it gets!
Q
A. Foods are added to your Most Frequently Used Items list automatically based on how often you add them to your diary. As you add items to your diary, they will appear on your list if you add them frequently enough. There isn't anything special that you need to do to make an item appear on the list.
Q
A. Yes, you can. Just check the foods you would like to delete, then click the "Delete from List" button in the lower right.
Please note that when you "delete from list" an item on your Most Used list, you are actually "blacklisting" the item from appearing on the list again. So, it's not a temporary deletion, it's a permanent ban on that food returning to your "most used" list. Users, for instance, who have made a radical change in their eating habits will use this to get the junk food off their list.
If you would like to allow some or all of these items to return to your most used list, hit the "View Deleted Items" button at the bottom of the list. You can place a check next to any foods in the deleted list and then "restore" them to the pool of foods available to accumulate in your Most Used list.
Q
A. If you've removed a food from your Most Frequently Used Foods list and wish to restore it, just click on the "View Deleted Items" button in the lower right of your list. You can then check the items you wish to restore and click the "Restore Checked Items" button to make them eligible for your list again.
Please note, though, that restoring items does not automatically mean they will appear on your Most Frequently Used Foods list. The item you've restored will still need to be one of the items you've eaten most often to appear on the list. You may need to delete some other items on your list, for example, before the item you've restored will appear.
Q
A. Yes, you can. At the top right of your Most Frequently Used Item list, in the Sort By section, click on Name and your list will be sorted alphabetically instead of by frequency.
Q
A. It's easy to add a personal food to your database. Just click on "Add Food" to the meal you'd like to add your new food to, then search for the food you'd like to add in our database. If the item does not already exist in our database, you can click on the "Add a food to our database" link below the search results. You'll be taken to a page where you can add the nutritional information for the food you'd like to add to the database. Once you're finished entering in your data, just click the "Save Food" button.
To add your new food to your diary, just search for it like any other food. For example, if the food you created was called "Mike's homemade apple pie", you could just search for "Mike's apple pie." Your food will appear in the search results, and you can add it to your log like any other food in our database.
When you are creating a new food, you can also help us grow our database by electing to share your food with other members. We'll review your submission and add it to the MyFitnessPal database for everyone to use. If you do decide to share your food, please do your best to ensure that the information you provide is complete and accurate.
Q
A. To edit or delete a personal food, click on the "Food" tab, then click on "My Foods." Search for the food you'd like to edit or delete, then click on that item in the search results. The food you want to edit should appear in the chart to the right. Just click on the "Edit" or "Delete" button to make modifications to your food.
Please note that if you shared a personal food with our public food database, that food cannot be deleted, because others may now be using it. Similarly, if you have edited a public food to make it more accurate, that item cannot be deleted from your My Foods list.
Q
A. We review all of the foods submitted to the database for accuracy and to ensure that the item hasn't already been added. Due to the volume of submissions we receive, there may be a delay before your food is visible to other members.
We are working on a system where foods will be accessible in a much shorter time, so hopefully you will see some improvements here shortly.
Q
A. Our food database contains a combination of foods that we add depending on the availability of information as well as foods that are added by our users. We allow users to both add and share new food items with our community to continue to grow our database and enhance the overall experience for all users. Currently, only foods created on our website (as opposed to created on our mobile apps) are eligible to be shared with the community, however, we may change this in a future version of the application.
Q
A. For foods that you regularly eat together, saving them as a Meal lets you easily add them to your diary as a group.
For example, you can create a Meal called "Two eggs and cereal breakfast" consisting of two eggs and a bowl of cereal. You can then add "Two eggs and cereal breakfast" at once instead of adding each item separately.
To create a Meal, just add the items for that Meal to one section of your diary, then click on "Quick Tools" under that meal name, then on "Remember Meal".
To add a remembered Meal to your diary, just search for it by name (i.e. search for "Two eggs and cereal breakfast") and add it like you would any other food.
Q
A. Yes, you can. To edit a meal, first add it to your diary. Then, within your diary, you can make any changes to the meal that you'd like - for example, changing a portion size, or deleting/adding a different food item. Finally, click the "Quick Tools" link under the section name and choose the "Remember Meal" option to resave the meal. Finally, choose the "Replace an Existing Meal" option. Choose the meal name you wish to overwrite and that meal will be replaced with the meal you just created.
Q
A. You can customize which nutrients are tracked in your diary. Just click on the "Food" tab, then click on the "Settings" link. On the following page, you can customize which nutrients in addition to calories that are tracked in your diary. You may track up to 6 toal nutrients, one of which must be calories. At the moment these preferences affect the website's diary, only.
Q
A. To customize the way your diary is split into meals, just click on the "Food" tab, then click on the "Settings" link. You'll be taken to a page where you can change both the names of the meals used in your food diary, as well as the number of meals tracked.
For example, to track your eating habits by time, you could change your meal names to "9AM to 11AM", "11AM to 1PM", etc.
To delete a meal, just edit the meal name to be blank. Please note that previous food diary entries will also have their meal names changed.
Q
A. To view a printable, full report of your food diary, just click on the "Food" tab, then click on the "View Full Report (Printable)" button at the bottom of the page.
You'll be taken to a page where you can select the date range you'd like to view, as well as which elements of your food and exercise diaries you'd like to see in the report. You can then print the page and share it with a nutritionist or keep a copy of it for your records.
Q
A. Just click on the "Food" tab, then click on the "View Full Report (Printable)" button at the bottom of the page.
You'll be taken to a page where you can choose the date range you'd like to view along with the elements of your food and exercise diaries you'd like to include in your report. Just click the "Change Report" button and you'll see a printable view of your diary for the time period you selected.
Q
A. We'd love to be able to allow labels for quick added calories, but unfortunately, it's difficult for us to do for technical reasons. Instead, what many of our users do is add notes in the Food Notes section as a reminder of what the quick calories were for.
Q
A. Many of the items in our database have been entered in by other members. If you notice an incorrect entry and would like to edit it, you can do so on the website at www.myfitnesspal.com.
Once you've signed in, go to the "food" tab. After you click the "food" tab, a link for the "database" should appear directly under the "food" tab. Click on the "database" link.
Type the item you would like to edit into the "search our food database" and click "search". Find the item in the matching search results and click onto it.
After you click on the item, another page with the item's nutritional information should appear on the right hand side. To the right of the nutritional facts should be a green "edit" button. Click on the "edit" button, and another page should appear. There you should be able to edit the incorrect information. Make sure you click the green "save changes" button when you have finished.
Please note that when you edit an item in the database, you are effectively creating a new food item. If you have logged the original item in the past, the "version" in your Most Used or Frequent list is likely the original version. Adding the item from those lists will add the original values to your diary. For best results, add the item from your "My Foods" list to ensure you are logging the edited version.

Q
A. At the moment you can only share a food at the time of its creation. We are looking into the possibility of creating a "share later" option
Q
A. Recipes on the site allow you to combine multiple ingredients and then find out how many calories and what amount of nutrients are in one portion, or serving, of that recipe.
To get started, click the Food tab then click Recipes. Next, click the Enter New Recipe Button.
Then, enter the recipe name and the number of servings.
Because recipes contain various kinds of measures (oz, tbs, cups, lbs, grams) there is no way for the recipe editor to calculate how many servings of a particular size will result when the various items are combined.
If you're not sure how many servings a recipe will produce, enter a best-guess number when you first create the recipe.
Then, after the recipe is cooked, you can manually measure the number of servings that have been produced. Then, the recipe can be edited and the correct number of servings can be entered.
The next time you make the recipe in the same way, the recipe in your database will correctly reflect the resulting quantities.
Once you have filled in the recipe name and number of servings, click "Add Ingredient" and search for the first ingredient in your recipe. Be sure to adjust the "number of servings" of each ingredient to reflect how much of the item you are using in the entire recipe. For example, an entire box of pasta might contain six or eight servings of the serving size listed on the package.
Once all of the ingredients are entered, click "Save Recipe." The recipe will now be available in the "Recipes" tab when you add food to your diary in the Food > Food Diary area of the site.
Q
A. Currently, the options in the "Serving Size" area are limited to the options entered when the food item was created in our database. If the MFP team entered it, there may be several options available if you tap the Serving Size field, but if another user entered the item there is typically only one choice.
However, by manipulating the "number of servings" value, you can accommodate for different serving sizes. So, if the serving size was 1 cup, and you use 3/4 of a cup, you could enter .75 as the number of servings and accomplish the same goal.
Also, if the item is listed as a serving size of 10 oz, for example, the serving size menu should also offer a single unit of this measurement. So a 10oz serving should also have the option of 1 oz, which can then be modified, as mentioned above, by adjusting the number of servings.
If you are looking for a different serving size (for instance, ounces versus grams) it's likely that another user has created an item in the database that measures the food you're searching for in the units you prefer. If you examine some of the other items that appear in the search results, you may find one that matches your preference.
Q
A. We're definitely considering adding better ways to track vitamins, supplements, or medications. In the meantime, many users use the Notes area to record any vitamins/supplements/medications they are taking.
Food notes are available on our website at the bottom of the food diary page.
Or, if you like, you can also create a new "meal" category and label it something like, "vitamins and supplements". Then "create a new food" with your vitamins or supplements and add them in as a food item.
To add to or change your meal names, click on "My Home", then "Settings", then "Diary Settings". At the top of that page is an area where you can change your meal names as well as add two additional meals if you'd like.
EXERCISE DIARY AND EXERCISE DATABASE
Q
A. To add an exercise to your exercise diary, just take the following steps:
1. Click on the "Exercise" tab to go to your diary, then click on "Add Exercise" under the type of exercise you'd like to log.
2. Type in the name of the exercise you'd like to add into the search box and click "Search."
3. You'll be shown a list of exercises in our database that match your query. Click on the item you'd like to add, and that exercise should appear in the grey box to the right.
4. Enter in the amount of exercise that you performed, then click "Add Exercise to Diary."
That's it! Your exercise should now be logged in your diary.
Q
A. To delete an item from your exercise diary, first click the "Exercise Tab."
Then, to the far right of the item you wish to remove, click the red circle with the "minus" sign.
The item will be removed from your Exercise Diary.
Q
A. Most of us tend to perform the same exercises in our workout routines. MyFitnessPal takes advantage of that to make logging your workouts easier.
As you log what exercises you've performed, MyFitnessPal remembers what you like to do in your "Most Frequently Used Items" list. You can then add any items from those list just by checking the box and clicking the "Add Checked Items To Diary" button.
The more you log, the easier it gets!
Q
A. Exercises are added to your Most Frequently Used Items list automatically based on how often you add them to your diary. As you add items to your diary, they will appear on your list if you add them frequently enough. There isn't anything special that you need to do to make an item appear on the list.
Q
A. This is a feature that we hope to implement in the future. At this time, however, you cannot delete items from your Most Frequently Used Items list.
Q
A. Yes, you can. At the top right of your Most Frequently Used Item list, in the Sort By section, click on Name and your list will be sorted alphabetically instead of by frequency.
Q
A. It's easy to add a personal exercise to your database. Just click on "Add Exercise" under the type of exercise you'd like to add. Then click on "Enter an Exercise Not Listed" next to the search box. You'll be taken to a page where you can describe the exercise you'd like to add. Once you're finished entering in your data, just click the "Save Exercise" button.
To add your new exercise to your diary, just search for it like any other exercise. For example, if the exercise you created was called "leg lifts", you could just search for "leg lifts." Your exercise will appear in the search results, and you can add it to your log like any other exercise in our database.
Q
A. If you know exactly how many calories you burned from a machine at the gym, you can manually enter that number into your diary. Just search for the exercise in our database, select it from the search results, and type in the exact number of calories you burned in the "Calories Burned" box to the right. That number will be saved in your diary.
Q
A. Estimating the calories burned from strength training is very difficult because it depends on a variety of factors: how much weight you lifted per repetition, how vigorously you performed that exercise, how much rest you took between sets, etc. Because of this, we do not automatically calculate how many calories you burned from strength training exercises.
However, if you'd like, you can add "Strength training" as a cardio exercise to get a rough estimate of how many calories you burned. Please be aware though that this is definitely a rough estimate and can be fairly inaccurate.
Q
A. To edit or delete a personal exercise, click on the "Exercise" tab, then click on "My Exercises." Search for the exercise you'd like to edit or delete, then click on that item in the search results. The exercise you want to edit should appear in the chart to the right. Just click on the "Edit" or "Delete" button to make modifications to your exercise.
Q
A. Just click on the "Exercise" tab, then click on the "View Full Report (Printable)" button at the bottom of the page.
You'll be taken to a page where you can choose the date range you'd like to view along with the elements of your food and exercise diaries you'd like to include in your report. Just click the "Change Report" button and you'll see a printable view of your diary for the time period you selected.
Q
A. Our cardio exercise database is always undergoing revision. Currently most of the entries are for standard exercises whose calories are easily calculated with the right personal data such as your weight.
Many popular exercise routines consist of complex series of movements, so the calories burned vary greatly for each individual.
Popular requests that we are already considering adding are:
P90x
Nia
Xbox Kinect
Les Mills
Jillian Michaels
Bikram Yoga
and several others.
We hope to add these items at some point in the future, when we have determined the best way to calculate the calories burned.
In the meantime if you roughly know how many calories you are burning via a heart rate monitor, etc., then you can add the exercise in yourself. Just go to "cardiovascular" and then "create new exercise". This will be for your personal database and not the main database.
Or for a "rough" estimate, you could also try substituting something similar like a dance class or yoga practice already in our database.
GOALS AND CHECK-IN
Q
A. To change your diet and fitness goals, just click on the "My Home" tab, click on "Goals", then click on the "Change Goals" button.
You'll see two options: guided and custom. In the guided option, MyFitnessPal will recommend a set of diet and fitness goals for you based on your diet profile. In the custom option, you can set your own customized calorie and nutrition goals.
Q
A. To customize your nutrition goals, click on the "My Home" tab, then click on "Goals", then "Change Goals". Choose the "Custom" option, and you'll be taken to a page where you can set your goals to whatever values you'd like.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
Q
A. Since breastfeeding can vary for each woman, we don't currently have a specific recommendation for adjusting your calories if you're breastfeeding. However, if you are able to obtain an estimate for this from your doctor or nutritionist, we do allow you to change your calorie goal to account for the difference.
If you are using the MyFitnessPal website, you can click on "Goals" then "Change Goals, then select "Custom," where you will be presented with similar options.
If you would like to change the goal back eventually, you can go to the same screen and change it back.
Or if you like, you can also add "breastfeeding" in as an exercise. Once you have your recommendation, then you can add "breastfeeding" in as a cardiovascular exercise. Just go to "cardiovascular" and then "create new exercise". Since this will be an individual estimate, it will be for your personal database and not the main database.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
Q
A. Pregnancy varies for each woman. Therefore, we don't set a specific guideline. However, if you can obtain a recommendation from your doctor, we do allow you to customize the program around this recommendation.
You can set your own nutritional goals for calories, fat, carbs, and any other nutrient that we track.
Once you've logged in, go to "My Home", then "Goals", then hit the "Change Goals" button at the bottom of the page. Choose the "Custom" option and you'll be taken to a page where you can set your own targets for all of the nutrients we track.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
Q
A. We are definitely looking into adding more features to the site and apps for our diabetic users. In the meantime, here are a couple of features we currently have that might help.
If you have specific dietary needs, you can set your own nutritional goals for calories, carbs, fat, and any other nutrient that we track.
Once you've logged in, go to "My Home", then "Goals", then click the "Change Goals" button at the bottom of the page. Choose the "Custom" option and you'll be taken to a page where you can set your own targets for all of the nutrients we track.
Please note, even if you do customize your goals, once you add exercise in under the cardiovascular section, your fixed goals will change to match your new requirements from exercise.
If keeping to a very strict limit of carbs is important in your diabetes regimen, we recommend using the "total" value calculated in your diary to know when you're reached your goal, rather than the "remaining" total, if you are logging exercises.
If you would like to keep track of blood sugar levels, you can add those as a measurement you are tracking in the "Check-In" area of the site.
Click on "My Home", then "Check in", then "Track Additional Measurements". You'll be taken to a page where you can add whatever measurements you'd like to your account.
Q
A. Every time you record your weight in our system, MyFitnessPal checks to see if you've lost 10 pounds since the last time your goals were calculated. If so, we'll ask you if you'd like to reset your goals based on your new weight.
Q
A. We recommended recording your weight and other measurements once a week. Our system will allow you to record them as often as you'd like, but your weight can fluctuate quite a bit daily which is why we recommend a weekly check-in.
Q
A. Yes, you can. Just go to "My Home", then click "Check-in", then "Track Additional measurements." On that page, you can customize your measurements and track whatever you'd like.
Q
A. You can edit past entries by going to the "My Home" tab, clicking on "Check-in", then clicking on the "Edit Previous Entries" button.
You can also add entries from before your starting date on MyFitnessPal.
Q
A. Unfortunately, setting a new daily calorie goal will affect your historical entries and also change your calorie goal for previous days. We'd like to change this so that we can store a history of your calorie goal, but unfortunately, it's not a simple fix which is why we haven't implemented it yet. But it's definitely on our to-do list.
Q
A. Carbs and protein each have 4 calories per gram.
Fat has 9 calories per gram.
Most food labels report Fat, Carbs, and Protein in grams per serving, so this is the value used when totaling your macronutrient goals in the Nutrient Details area of your diary.
However, a gram of fat will move you toward your NetCalorie goal a little more than twice as quickly as a gram of protein or carbs.
For this reason, your macronutrient calorie ratio is influenced by this difference in "calorie density."
The default macro ratio is 55% of calories from carbs, 15% of calories from protein, and 30% of calories from fat. But because the fat grams are more than twice as "dense" as the carb or protein grams, roughly the same number of grams of protein and fat are required to deliver 15% of your calorie goal from protein, and 30% from fat.
Q
A. When you create your profile, we ask you for information such as your height, age, weight, gender, activity level and how much weight you would like to lose or gain per week. We then use all of this information to determine your daily calorie goal.
Your daily NetCalorie goal does not initially include additional exercise. If you do exercise for the day, we ask you to then record this information in the "cardiovascular" section.
Your daily totals will then increase based on your amount of exercise. The calories added to your daily goal are divided among the various nutrients such as fat, carbs, protein, and subcategories like fiber and sugar.
For more information about NetCalories, please see "What are Net Calories" in the "General" section.

If users wish to guarantee the framing of their photo in the forums, they should crop their photo to a square shape prior to uploading it. This can be done in any conventional photo software (iPhoto, Preview, Photoshop, etc)
Q
A. You may remove any individual item from your News Feed if it was posted under your username. News Feed items posted to your wall by other users may not be individually deleted, but you may Hide that Friend's posted items in total, if you choose.
To remove a post of your own, hover your cursor over the item in question until you see a link labeled "Remove" appear on the right-hand edge of the item. Click this link.
To hide another user's items, hover your cursor over the item in question until you see a link labeled "Hide" appear on the right-hand edge of the item. Click this link. All current and future posts from this user will be hidden on your News Feed.
Q
A. To adjust your age, click "My Home" then "Settings" then "Update diet/fitness profile." You may change your birthdate in the screen that follows.
Q
A. If you have friends or family who have set their "Diary Sharing" options to allow you to view their diary, you may copy a meal from a friend's diary to yours, for faster logging when families and friends dine together.
First, visit your Friend's profile page and click "View Diary."
Click "Quick Tools" under the meal you wish to copy, and then select "Copy to Today" or "Copy to Date."
If your friend has added a fifth or sixth meal to his or her diary, you must also have a meal in this position of your diary before you can copy from those slots. You can add meals to your diary at My Home > Settings > Diary settings.
Q
A. If you would prefer to prevent your friends who use MyFitnessPal from finding your profile when searching by your email address, it's simple to opt out of this social feature. Once logged in, click My Home > Settings > Change email address/email preferences and make sure the box is unchecked next to "Allow people to see that I am on MyFitnessPal and easily add me as a friend." PRIVACY
Q
A. By default, ONLY your MyFitnessPal friends can see any activity on your news feed. Anyone who is not your friend cannot see any of your activity. The only small exception is that, if a friend comments on someone's status, you'll be able to see that one status item only, even if you are not friends with them. But the rest of their activity will remain private.
In general, your activity will only be shared with the people that you trust and want to support you. If you don't want someone to see your activity, just remove them from your friends list, or don't add them in the first place - it's that easy.
Q
A. Yes, you can turn on or off any of the automatically generated updates that are posted to your news feed. In order to change these settings, click "My Home" then "Settings," then "Automatic News Feed Update Settings."
You can check or uncheck any of the categories to control whether or not these activities generate posts to your news feed. Be sure to click the "Save Changes" button when you are finished making changes.
Q
A. No, by default, other members cannot see your weight or your food diary. If you'd like to share your food diary, you can change your sharing settings by clicking "My Home", then click "Settings" then "Diary Settings." If you make a change to your settings, be sure to click "Save Changes" when you are done.
Also by default, no other members can see your actual weight. We do show how much weight you've lost, i.e. "10 lbs lost" so that other users can provide you support and encouragement, but no one can see your actual weight.
Q
A. If you are receiving unwanted private messages, you can block the sender from sending further messages by logging in at http://www.myfitnesspal.com, reading the message in your inbox, and clicking "Block User"

Q
A. Groups can be set to either "Public" or "Private" by a Group administrator.
Groups set to "Private" are not viewable on the web except by MyFitnessPal users, logged into their accounts, who have joined that group based an invitation from a current Group member.
As a result, contents of Private Groups cannot be indexed by search engines, because that content is not accessible to their indexing "bots".
Groups set to "Public" can be viewed (and joined) by any MyFitnessPal user. Public Group content may also be found by performing general searches of the web using any popular search engine.
If you are uncertain whether a Group you belong to is public or private, please check with your Group's administrator.
WEIGHT LOSS TICKERS
Q
A. Click on the "Apps" tab, then click on the "Weight Loss Tickers" link in the "Other Tools" area. That will take you to the section of the site where you can create your ticker.
Q
A. Here's a quick explanation of how to add a weight loss ticker to your forum signature:
1. First, click on the Apps tab, then on the "Weight Loss Tickers" link in the "Other Tools" area to reach the section of the site where you can create your ticker.
2. Follow the steps to create your ticker. They should (hopefully) be self-explanatory.
3. When your ticker has been completed, you can elect to share it with each of your forum posts, as follows: Click the "Community" tab, then, below the header that reads "Message Boards," click "Settings." Check the box that says "Show your MyFitnessPal ticker below each of your forum posts" and finally click "Save Changes"
Q
A. To update your ticker, click on the Apps tab, then on the "Weight Loss Tickers" link in the "Other Tools" area. Next, click on "Update your weight data" and you'll be taken to a screen showing what we think your current weight is. Just change that value to whatever your actual current weight is and click "Save Changes."
Your ticker will then be updated to reflect your new weight. The changes will be reflected everywhere you have displayed your ticker automatically - you don't need to do anything else.
Q
A. When you join MyFitnessPal and enter a starting weight, that starting weight is used to calculate the reported weight loss on your ticker as well.
Sometimes your weight may fluctuate above the initial reported starting weight. This is often the case after a hiatus in using the site. If you resume using the site again with a weight anything higher than your initially recorded start weight, the ticker will not start reporting weight loss until the check-in weight is once again below that recorded start weight.
To remedy this and to get the ticker once again reporting weight loss as it happens, it is necessary to set a new starting weight.
This can be done in one of three ways:
A - Click on the Apps tab, then on the "Weight Loss Tickers" link in the "Other Tools" area, then "Update Your Weight Data." Adjust your starting weight here.
or
B - Click "My Home" then "Check-In" then "Edit Previous Entries." You can enter a new starting weight here as well.
Also, please bear in mind that weight loss of less than a pound will be rounded off to the nearest integer for display on your ticker.
Q
A. To change the starting weight or goal weight on your ticker, click on the Apps tab, then on the "Weight Loss Tickers" link in the "Other Tools" area. Next, click on "Update your weight data" and you'll be taken to a screen showing the starting weight and goal weight we have recorded. Just make whatever changes you'd like to those values and click "Save Changes."
Your ticker will then be updated to reflect your new starting and goal weights. The changes will be reflected everywhere you have displayed your ticker automatically - you don't need to do anything else.
Q
A. First, copy the html code from here: Ticker Code
Then, go to your blog post, and click on the "html" button in the upper right hand corner of the body window. Paste the code in the window that opens. Then, click "Update" at the bottom of the editing window and continue writing your post as usual.
FORUMS, GROUPS AND BLOGS
Q
A. To begin posting in the forums, click the "Community" tab in the top right of the site.
Then, click the most appropriate forum category for your post from the list on the left, such as "Introduce Yourself" or "Technical Support/Need Help."
To post a new topic or question, click the "New Topic" button in the top right. Or, click on an existing topic, and reply to the comments by clicking the "Reply" button.
Q
A. If you have been made a moderator in a user-created Group, you will see the Moderate link at the top of each page of the Forums or Groups.
The link will turn red when there are moderator reports to review in any Group of which you are a moderator.
There's some documentation about the moderation tools at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/800-moderators-forum
Q
Q
A. Only current users of MyFitnessPal can be invited to join a Group on the site. To invite an existing MyFitnessPal user to join a Group, click the "Invite Friends" tool on a Group page and enter a MyFitnessPal username.
If your friends are not yet users of MyFitnessPal, you can invite them to join the overall site by clicking My Home > Friends. On this page you can choose to invite friends via their email address, or using your Facebook friends list, if your MyFitnessPal and Facebook accounts are linked.
Once your friends have joined the site, they may join your group. If your Group is "public" they can join just by visiting the Group's home page. If your Group is "private" they will need to be sent an invitation, via the "Invite Friends" button on the Group home page, using their MyFitnessPal username.
If your friends are already members of MyFitnessPal but you don't know their usernames, you can search for them using their email address by going to Community > Find Members and entering their email address in the "Username or Email" field, then clicking "Search." (Please note that some users may opt out of being located on MyFitnessPal by email address).
Q
A. Users who create Groups in the Community > Groups area can edit and delete posts, mark topics as sticky, and in various other ways moderate the experience of Group members. For full details on these tools, we recommend joining this Group for Group Moderators, where these tools are fully documented:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/800-moderators-forum
Q
A. If you would prefer not to see forum posts from a particular user, click the triangular menu button below that user's profile photo, next to any post made by that user in the forums. Select "Ignore User" and that user's posts will be hidden from you in all topics. These posts will be replaced by a notice that you are ignoring the user, along with an "undo" link to reverse the process.
YOUR ACCOUNT
Q
A. Go to "My Home", click on "Settings", then click on "Change username." When you change your username, all of your previous posts and messages will be updated to reflect your new username.
Please note, however, that you can only change your username once. After you've changed your username, you will not be able to change it again, so please make sure to choose carefully.
Q
A. Click on the "My Home" tab, then click on "Settings", then "Change password."
Q
A. Click on "My Home", then click on "Settings", then "Change email address/email preferences."
Q
A. To change the gender of your profile, log in online at www.myfitnesspal.com. Sign into the members log in area with your normal username and password.
Once logged in, go to "My Home", then "Settings", then "Update diet/fitness profile".
Under the setting for height is the setting for gender. When you are done make sure you scroll down and hit the green "update profile" tab.
Q
A. Go to "My Home", then click on "Settings", then "Change email address/email preferences". On that page, you can subscribe or unsubscribe to all of our different mailings.
Q
A. Go to "My Home", then click on "Settings", then "Switch to Metric measurements."
Q
A. Yes, you can. Just click on the "My Home" tab, then click on "Settings", then click "Change time zone." From that page, you can set your local time zone and all dates and times on the site will be adjusted accordingly.
Q
A. You can delete your account by going to the "My Home" tab, then clicking on "Settings", then "Delete account."
Please be aware that by deleting your account, all of the foods and exercises you've created as well as your diary entries will be deleted. You will not be able to recover them once you delete your account.
Q
A. Unfortunately, you can not create two accounts with the same email address. For security reasons (we send password resets, etc., via email) the system will not allow more than one account per email address.
You will need a separate email account to create a different account. There are now many free email providers, such as gmail, hotmail, and aol, that will allow you to create a new email address and have your emails forwarded to your existing account.
Q
A. If your "days in a row" counter is incorrect, you can request a correction by completing the form at the following link:
Reset Counter Request
Just fill out that form, and someone will look into it as soon as possible.
Q
A. Upon account deletion, there is occasionally a delay of a few days before data is removed from the site. This cannot be relied upon though, and account deletion requests should be considered permanent.
When account data is removed, all "private" content will be removed from the site completely:
Diary Entries (Food and Exercise)
Personal Foods
Account Profile Information (your statistics, and the content describing you on your Profile page)
Blog Posts
Wall posts
Other content, specifically forum posts and personal foods shared with the full database, are considered to be "public", and are not removed as part of account deactivation.
Q
A. If you choose to unlink your MyFitnessPal and Facebook accounts after creating your MyFitnessPal account based on your Facebook credentials, you will be prompted to create a password for your MyFitnessPal account. Once you have done so, you may log in to MyFitnessPal using your email address and MyFitnessPal password.
BODYMEDIA FIT INTEGRATION
Q
A. BodyMedia FIT Armbands are highly accurate multi-sensor tracking devices that track your calories around the clock. By integrating this data with your MyFitnessPal account, we can adjust your Net Calorie Goal dynamically over the course of a day to help you meet your weight management goals with even greater precision.
Q
A. BodyMedia armbands are available in many retail stores as well as from online resellers. The easiest way to purchase a BodyMedia armband is to visit our BodyMedia integration page at http://myfitnesspal.com/apps/show/10 and click "Learn More."
Q
A. If you have just purchased a BodyMedia armband, you will need to register it with the BodyMedia website (and purchase a subscription plan) before linking it to your MyFitnessPal account. http://bodymedia.com/Support-Help/Get-Started
Once you have created your account, follow the instructions there to link your BodyMedia armband to your BodyMedia account.
Q
A. Once you have registered your BodyMedia armband and created an account at bodymedia.com, you can link your BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal accounts as follows:
1. Go to www.BodyMedia.com
2. Press "Log In" in the upper right corner since you already have an account, and enter in your email address and password, then click "Log In".
3. Next click "Activity Manager" in green on the upper right corner.
4. When your Activity manager loads, you will see a tool bar that stretches across the top, that reads: Summary, Tools, Settings, & Apps. Click on "Apps".
5. On the Apps page, you will then see all of the programs you can sync BodyMedia with. In the lower right corner, you will see "MyFitnessPal".
6. You will then be able to link your BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal accounts on the MyFitnessPal page.
Q
A. After linking BodyMedia to MyFitnessPal, you should log food only to your Food Diary on MyFitnessPal.
However, BodyMedia's multi-sensor armbands are designed to accurately track all of your physical activity. Once you have linked your accounts, and are wearing the armband daily, it should not be necessary to manually log your exercise activity.
The exception to this is any period of thirty minutes or more during which you have not worn the Armband. If you need to account for physical activity (such as swimming) for a period of time during which the Armband was removed, log in to your account at bodymedia.com and specify the activity using the BodyMedia Activity Manager. For best results, log individual activities ONLY at BodyMedia's site, and only for periods during which the Armband was not worn.
Q
A. When you link your MyFitnessPal and BodyMedia accounts, the data items below will sync between your accounts. Other data (measurements, etc) will not sync and should be entered on both sites if you wish to see this data in both places.
CALORIES BURNED
Whenever your armband updates your account at BodyMedia, we'll retrieve the actual calories burned that you've recorded up to that point in the day.
For whatever portion of the day that you have remaining, we'll use an estimate for your calorie burn based on the activity level that you selected when you initially signed up with MyFitnessPal.
If the total of your actual calories burned (from BodyMedia) and your estimated calories burned for the remainder of the day are different than our original estimate for the entire day (plus the total of the exercise calories you've logged), we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly.
The adjustment will be recorded as a cardiovascular exercise labeled "BodyMedia Calorie Adjustment". This number will automatically adjust every time you sync your BodyMedia so don't be surprised if it changes during the day.
CALORIES CONSUMED
We'll also sync summaries of your consumed calories (per meal) that will appear on your BodyMedia account. Individual food items will not appear at BodyMedia because of the differences in the contents of our food databases. Your meals will be totaled and summarized at BodyMedia so that you get credit for the calories and nutrients of the items logged.
Q
A. MyFitnessPal pulls your calorie burn directly from BodyMedia’s Activity Manager. If this number is different than MyFitnessPal’s estimate for your daily calorie burn an adjustment will be made to your caloric intake goal. This adjustment can either be positive or negative. If the adjustment is positive, this indicates that your BodyMedia calorie burn for the day is greater than MyFitnessPal’s estimate. If the adjustment is negative this indicates that BodyMedia’s reported calorie burn is lower than MyFitnessPal’s estimate. Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by clicking the small "i" next to the adjustment in your Exercise Diary (on the full website). Because the adjustment value is recalculated every time your BodyMedia armband uploads new data, you should expect this value to change over the course of the day.
By default, MyFitnessPal will show you only positive calorie adjustments. To permit negative adjustments, log in to the full MyFitnessPal site at http://www.myfitnesspal.com and click "My Home" then "Settings" then "Diary Settings." Check the box for "Enable Negative Adjustments" then click "Save Changes."
If you are typically unable to sync your device until late in the day, you may wish to leave negative adjustments "off."
Q
A. Enabling a negative calorie adjustment from your integration with Fitbit, MIO, Striiv or BodyMedia will give you the most accurate information about your calorie expenditure for the day. A negative calorie adjustment indicates that you are using fewer calories on a given day than our original MyFitnessPal estimate.
The option for allowing negative calorie adjustments can be found by logging in to your account at http://www.myfitnesspal.com, then clicking My Home > Settings > Diary settings. Check the box for "Enable Negative Adjustments" then click "Save Changes." Your settings will take effect the next time data syncs from your device.
We recommend enabling negative adjustments if:
- you expect to wear your tracking device consistently
- you would like the most accurate calorie feedback MyFitnessPal can provide
- your device is able to sync its data multiple times over the course of the day
We recommend leaving negative adjustments off, if:
- you do not expect to wear your device consistently
- your device can only sync occasionally, or only late in the day
- you wish to use the device only for the motivational experience of earning additional calories
Q
A. To confirm that your BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal accounts are linked, log in to your account at http://www.myfitnesspal.com then visit this link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/list
You will see each website or device you have linked with your MyFitnessPal account, along with the date the link was established.
Q
A. To unlink your account, log in to your MyFitnessPal account at http://www.myfitnesspal.com, then visit this link http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/list
On this page, you will see each website or device you have linked with your MyFitnessPal account, along with the date the link was established.
Click "Disconnect" to unlink your accounts.
Q
A. At the moment, our integration with BodyMedia does not provide a way for custom meal names on MyFitnessPal to be presented in the food diary information at BodyMedia.
Currently, any food items in meals with custom names on MyFitnessPal will be totaled in the "Snack" category of your BodyMedia account. If you have customized your meals to include options other than Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks, those custom names cannot currently be reflected on your BodyMedia account.
All calories and nutrient totals are preserved: only the custom meal names cannot currently be synced.
Q
A. For any issues with your BodyMedia product, your best resource for support is http://www.bodymedia.com/Support-Help
The support team at MyFitnessPal will be happy to help with any issues relating to the integration between BodyMedia and MyFitnessPal, but issues with the device itself are best handled by the support team at BodyMedia.
Q
A. In general it's fine to link your activity tracker to other services in addition to MyFitnessPal, UNLESS that other service is ALSO linked to your MyFitnessPal account.
For example, if you link your tracker to a running website, and then link the running website to MyFitnessPal, you should not ALSO link the tracker to MyFitnessPal directly. We recommend directly linking your third party devices and apps directly to MyFitnessPal, if that device or app is listed in our App Gallery.
DIGIFIT INTEGRATION
Q
A. Digifit is an all-in-one training solution, tracking all your workouts, weight, resting heart rate and more! Pair with a heart monitor to get your calories, distance, pace and other metrics for any workout type, or take a Fitness Assessment to refine and target your fat burning zones! By linking your Digifit account to your MyFitnessPal account, exercises tracked by Digifit can automatically log to your Exercise Diary and, optionally, to your MyFitnessPal Newsfeed.
Q
A. The Digifit app is available for many Android and iOS devices. The easiest way to find the app is to visit our Digifit integration page at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/show/62 and click "Get App." You can also search your device's app store for "DigiFit." At this time Digifit iCardio, iRunner, and iBiker apps for iOS support linking with MyFitnessPal, with the Digifit Android apps and Digifit Spinning for iOS being added in the near future.
Q
A. Once you have created a Digifit account at digifit.com, or via one of their mobile apps, log in to MyFitnessPal and go to the following page:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/show/62 and click "Link Accounts"
You will be taken to a page at digifit.com where you can authorize the connection between your MyFitnessPal account and your Digifit account. (If you are not already logged in at digifit.com, you will need to log in before you can complete the authorization).
The newest versions of the Digifit apps will also allow you to link your accounts directly in the app, under Settings > Partner Setup
Q
A. Exercises that you log or track using the Digifit app, or on digifit.com, will automatically appear in your MyFitnessPal Exercise diary. You may continue to log other exercises using MyFitnessPal, but any individual exercise should be logged only once.
Q
A. Exercises logged with Digifit will sync the following data points to your MyFitnessPal account:
CALORIES
The calories burned in an exercise will be added to your Exercise Diary and will increase your daily NetCalorie, just like exercises logged directly on MyFitnessPal.
DURATION OF EXERCISE
The duration of your tracked exercise will be rounded to the nearest minute and logged in your Exercise Diary.
EXERCISE NAME
The name of your exercise will be used to label the synched entry in your Exercise Diary.
NEWS FEED POSTS
If you have elected to have Cardio Exercises posted to your MyFitnessPal News Feed, an item will appear on your News Feed including the duration of the name of the exercise, the duration and calories burned, and a link attributing the exercise to Digifit.
Q
A. Please check your News Feed settings, if Digifit workouts are syncing to your Exercise Diary, but are not appearing on your News Feed.
On the MyFitnessPal website: My Home > Settings > Automatic New Feed update settings
In the MyFitnessPal app: More > Settings > News Feed Privacy Settings.
Be sure to save your changes if you make any.
Also, bear in mind that News Feed posts will only be generated for exercises logged on the current calendar date.
Q
A. To confirm that your DIgifit and MyFitnessPal accounts are linked, log in to your account at http://www.myfitnesspal.com then visit this link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/list
Q
A. Please check that the following items are true.
- are your time zone settings the same at MyFitnessPal and Digifit?
In the MyFitnessPal app you can tap More > Edit profile to change your time zone.
On the MyFitnessPal website, after logging in, you can visit http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/timezone
The Digifit app will set your time zone based on your mobile device's current time zone. There is currently not a way to set your time zone on the digifit.com site, so please launch their mobile app at least once to ensure correct time zone settings.
Please adjust your MFP time zone, if necessary, and click "Save." Exercises will only post if they are recognized as being added on the current calendar day, so mismatched time zone settings may be part of the issue.
Did you manually enter a zero calorie workout in Digifit? Exercises must have a positive calorie value to sync to MyFitnessPal
- are your Digifit workouts successfully uploading to your account at digifit.com?
Exercises must arrive at digifit.com if they are to sync to MyFitnessPal.
You can check this in the Workouts tab at digifit.
On MyFitnessPal, log in then visit http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps to confirm that your accounts are linked.
If all of the above are set correctly, and your workouts are not posting to MyFitnessPal, please use the http://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/contact_us link to reach our tech support department.
Q
A. For any issues with the Digifit app itself, your best resource for support is http://www.digifit.com/support/
The support team at MyFitnessPal will be happy to help with any issues relating to the integration between Digifit and MyFitnessPal, but issues with the app are best handled by the support team at Digifit.
ENDOMONDO INTEGRATION
Q
A. Endomondo is a smartphone app that tracks duration, distance, calories and more for distance-based activities like running, cycling and walking. By linking your Endomondo account to your MyFitnessPal account, exercises tracked by Endomondo can automatically log to your Exercise Diary and, optionally, to your MyFitnessPal News Feed.

FITBIT TRACKER INTEGRATION
Q
A. Fitbit is a small, personal activity monitor that records information about your physical activity as you move through your day. By integrating this data with your MyFitnessPal account, we can adjust your Net Calorie Goal dynamically over the course of a day to help you meet your weight management goals with even greater precision
Q
A. Fitbit trackers are available in many retail stores as well as from online resellers. The easiest way to purchase a Fitbit tracker is to visit our Fitbit integration page at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/show/30 and click "Learn More."
Q
A. If you have just purchased a Fitbit, you will need to register it with the Fitbit website before linking it to your MyFitnessPal account.
Visit www.fitbit.com/start and follow the instructions there for your device. You will also be prompted to create an account at fitbit.com if you do not already have one.
Q
A. First, you will need to create an account at the Fitbit website at https://www.fitbit.com/signup
Once you have created your Fitbit account, login to your MyFitnessPal account and visit this link http://www.myfitnesspal.com/apps/show/30 and click "Link Accounts"
You will be taken to a page at fitbit.com where you can authorize the connection between your MyFitnessPal account and your Fitibt account. (If you are not already logged in at fitbit.com, you will need to log in before you can complete the authorization).
Q
A. Once your accounts are linked, it's important that you log your food and exercise ONLY with MyFitnessPal. We will sync your food and exercise diary information to the Fitbit site for you. Logging food or exercise yourself on the Fitbit website is unnecessary, and will lead to incorrect Net Calorie Goal adjustments. For the best experience with the integration, ALL manual entry of Food and Exercises should take place exclusively on the MyFitnessPal site.
Please note that if you are wearing your Fitbit during the day, we recommend that you NOT log any exercise on your MyFitnessPal Exercise Diary that the Fitbit excels at tracking: this includes walking, jogging, running, climbing stairs or hills, or daily home or office activity.
We do recommend that you log any exercise that your Fitbit's "step-based" system would have trouble detecting accurately, such as rowing or, cycling, and of course activities like swimming during which you cannot wear the device.
Q
A. CALORIES BURNED
Whenever you sync your Fitbit, we'll retrieve the actual calories burned that you've recorded up to that point in the day.
For whatever portion of the day that you have remaining, we'll use an estimate for your calorie burn based on the activity level that you selected when you initially signed up with MyFitnessPal.
If the total of your actual calories burned (from Fitbit) and your estimated calories burned for the remainder of the day are different than our original estimate for the entire day (plus the total of the exercise calories you've logged), we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly.
The adjustment will be recorded as a cardiovascular exercise labeled "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment". This number will automatically adjust every time you sync your Fitbit so don't be surprised if it changes during the day.
CALORIES EATEN
Whenever you log food on MFP, it will automatically be posted to Fitbit, where it will appear as a meal summary (not individual foods). Your meal summaries will sync starting on the day you linked your two accounts. Historical meal data is not synced to fitbit.com
CARDIO EXERCISE
When you log your cardio exercise on MyFitnessPal, this information is synced to your Fitbit account. It's important to enter the start time of your cardio exercise, so that the data collected by Fitbit during your workout can be correctly reconciled with the exercise calories you are logging.
WATER CONSUMPTION
Water consumption logged at MyFitnessPal will sync to your Fitbit account. This sync only works in one direction, so log your water consumption at MyFitnessPal only.
FITBIT STEPS AND FITBIT SLEEP MINUTES
These items are synced to your MyFitnessPal account and can be viewed at http://www.myfitnesspal.com by clicking "My Home" then "Check-In" on the website, or by tapping the "Progress" area of the iPhone, iPad, or Android apps.
WEIGHT
Weight entries logged at fitbit.com or in your accounts at MyFitnessPal will sync to the other account. This is an important factor in keeping your calorie estimates accurate as your weight changes.
Q
A. When the data reported by your Fitbit account shows that your daily calorie prediction from Fitbit and your estimated daily calories from your MyFitnessPal account are different, we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly. The "Fitbit Calorie Adjustment" represents the additional calories you have burned, above and beyond our original estimate. You may also see a negative adjustment if your activity level suggests you are less active than our MyFitnessPal estimate assumes. Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by clicking the small "i" next to the adjustment in your Exercise Diary (on the full website). Because the adjustment value is recalculated every time your Fitbit uploads new data, you should expect this value to change over the course of the day.
Q
A. By entering the time you begin your cardio exercise, the calories burned, and the number of minutes you exercised, MyFitnessPal and fitbit.com can correctly reconcile your cardio exercise with the increased activity recorded by your Fitbit during that period of time. Without the start time and the minutes exercised, it is likely that your increased activity level would be accounted for twice: once when you log it on MyFitnessPal, and once when your Fitbit reports increased activity. Entering the start time ensures that your Net Calorie Goal is not adjusted twice for the same cardio workout. The exercise calories you log with MyFitnessPal will replace the calorie data estimated by your Fitbit for that period of time.
Q
A. Using the stopwatch mode (available on some models) on your Fitbit device during exercise does not cause the device or the fitbit.com site to analyze your activity during that time period any differently. However, the period of time will be highlighted in the fitbit.com dashboard for easier visibility.
The exception to this is that you should set the stopwatch mode when you are tracking your sleep minutes with the Ultra or the One (also place the device in its wrist cuff). The fitbit.com site will combine this stopwatch period with your sleep-based movements to provide analysis of your sleep patterns. Your "Fitbit Sleep Minutes" will also sync to your check-in page on the MFP site, and the Progress area of any mobile MFP app, as a result.
Q
A. There are four data points that you can compare between your Fitbit and MFP accounts to determine if your accounts are syncing properly.
These four items are Fitbit Steps, Fitbit Sleep Minutes, Weight, and the Fitbit Adjustment (for calories burned).
You can see your Weight, Fitbit Steps and Fitbit Sleep Minutes in two places:
1. Under the "My Home" tab, click "Check-In". This will take you to a screen where you can enter in new progress measurements. This is where we record your Fitbit Steps and Fitbit Sleep Minutes. If you want to go directly to that screen you can go to this URL:
www.myfitnesspal.com/measurements/check_in
2. You can see a graph of your Steps and Sleep Minutes by going to the "Reports" tab and choosing to graph "Progress". When you see the option to "Choose a Report" you can choose Steps or Sleep Minutes. This will give you a little graph.
(Note that if you do not attach your Fitbit to the wrist band and set it to stopwatch mode when you sleep, you should not expect to see any Fitbit Sleep Minutes data.)
If you want to verify that the Fitbit calorie adjustment is working correctly, please see the FAQ titled "How exactly is my Fitbit Calorie Adjustment Calculated.

Q
A. If part of your Fitbit Calorie Adjustment seems to be rolling over to the next day unexpectedly, please check to see that your time zone settings are accurate in both our website, and at fitbit.com
On the MyFitnessPal site you can log in at www.myfitnesspal.com
and then go to www.myfitnesspal.com/account/timezone
At the fitbit.com site you can go to www.fitbit.com/user/profile/edit
Q
A. To understand your Fitbit Calorie Adjustment for any completed day, take your "Calories burned from normal daily activity" on your goals page (http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals)
Add to it any exercise calories you've burned as shown in your exercise diary, but don't include your Fitbit Adjustment
Compare that total to your calories burned on your Fitbit (only if it's an entire day's worth of calories)
The difference between the two is your Fitbit adjustment
The adjustment that you see during the course of an incomplete day is a projection made for the entire day, based on the amount of activity currently reported by Fitbit. Your adjustment will become more accurate of the course of the day, each time your Fitbit has a chance to update with your account on fitbit.com.
If you are less active than our MyFitnessPal calculations have estimated, you may receive a "negative" adjustment to keep you closer to your intended Net Calorie goal. If you are more active than our estimates expect, you will receive additional calories in the form of a "positive" adjustment.
Details about the calculation of any adjustment can be viewed by clicking the small "i" next to the adjustment in your Exercise Diary (on the full website).
By default, MyFitnessPal will show you only positive calorie adjustments. To permit negative adjustments, log in to the full MyFitnessPal site at http://www.myfitnesspal.com and click "My Home" then "Settings" then "Diary Settings" then click "Enable Negative Adjustments" then "Save Changes."
If you are typically unable to sync your device until late in the day, you may wish to leave negative adjustments "off."
Here is a more detailed explanation of the way we calculate the projected adjustment before a day is over:
If you only have a partial day's worth of calories on your Fitbit, we calculate how many minutes are left in the day, and we use that to create a projection for how many calories you'll burn today.
The calculation is: Fitbit calories so far for the day + (minutes left in the day / total minutes in a day) * (calories burned from normal daily activity)
So for example, if it's 12 noon, you've burned 1200 calories so far today according to Fitbit, and your calories burned from normal daily activity on MFP is 2000, the projection is:
1200 + (720 / 1440) * 2000 =
1200 + (1/2) * 2000 =
1200 + 1000=
2200
so the adjustment becomes
2200 - 2000 (mfp calories burned from normal daily activity)=
200
Q
A. For any issues with your Fitbit product, your best resource for support is http://help.fitbit.com
The support team at MyFitnessPal will be happy to help with any issues relating to the integration between Fitbit and MyFitnessPal, but issues with the device itself, or syncing of data between the device and the fitbit.com website are best handled by the support team at Fitbit.
Q

TROUBLESHOOTING
Q
A. If your calories burned for an exercise seem incorrect, this could be due to an accidental weight entry.
If you'd like to view or edit your weight entries, go to "My Home", then "Check-in", then "Edit Previous Entries". Your exercise calories burned should be corrected.
Q
A. If you see a text-based page when clicking on a food or exercise in a search results list, rather than getting the information in a sidebar on the current page, it is likely because javascript has been disabled in your broswer. Without javascript turned on, these areas render as text, and the buttons for adding the items do not appear.
Settings for javascript are typically found in a browser's security settings.
Q
A. If every time you click on a friend's photos under their profile you see your own photos instead of an enlarged view of your friend's photos, the likely explanation is that javascript is disabled in your web browser.
Typically, javascript is turned on or off in the "security" settings of your browser. Turn it on, and the photo functions should work normally.
Q
A. First, please try emptying your browser's cache. This is a harmless maintenance task and may get the site working again immediately. Instructions for the most popular browsers are here: Clear Your Cache
If you are using Internet Explorer, please note that you should uncheck the "preserve data for favorite websites" option if you have MyFitnessPal favorited or bookmarked.
After emptying your cache, please quit your browser and relaunch it, then return to the site.
If you are using Internet Explorer and clearing the cache does not correct the problem, please try toggling Explorer's "Compatibility Mode" on and off. The compatibility mode button is in the browser's address bar, near the "reload" button, and looks like a torn sheet of paper.
Q
A. When logged in to the site at www.myfitnesspal.com you may select the kinds of emails you'd like MyFitnessPal to send. Just click My Home > Settings > Change email address/email preferences
If you are not receiving the emails from MyFitnessPal that you have selected, one likely cause is that at one point our email to you may have bounced back to us.
