"Coping with life in Turkey"

About Me

I am from the states, but I live in Istanbul, Turkey.
I have enjoyed a very active life for the last 7 years...dancing, doing yoga, capoeira, step arobics, etc. I moved to Turkey two years ago and I have had some low back problems for almost one year now. It started when I woke up, just felt like a backache...I went to a dance workshop and danced hard. The next morning I couldn't walk and I was in bed for several weeks with two bulging discs. Since then I have been battling with depression about not being able to do the things I love because I always get a backache when I dance and I feel like I can't stretch that area of my body like used to. I've steadily suffered low back pain and lately have had a real painful bout of sciatica. I've always been a healthy, active person, but I've taken a real hit!

Why I Want To Get In Shape

Since my back pain started a year ago I have gone from weighing about 132 lbs to 141 pounds and I feel terrible because I haven't been able to do the kind of exercise that I used to. I feel depressed and I want to overcome my back problems and be the strong and focused person I used to be.

My Inspirations

  • Scott Smith - Motivation to Move!
  • Wearing those clothes I bought last year!
  • Feeling more attractive and alive!

Haha. Thanks! Don't worry about school, just take it one day at a time. I actually eat better at school than at home, because I live off the salad bar at school. When you're studying, try to have healthy snacks around, especially fruits and veggies. It'll help when you're studying and snack-ie.
