About Me

I am a mother, grandmother and a new Bride. I just married my first love after 34 years of being apart. I don't work outside the home because of a disability that affects my vision, but I keep myself busy gardening, sewing, painting faux stained glass work and writing.
I entered a contest last October to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days and I did it! I finished my first novel about Zombies! It is in the editing stages now and I am enjoying it. Yes, I sew, garden, paint and write about Brain Eating Zombies on an island off the Florida Panhandle. Keeps me out of trouble.

Why I Want To Get In Shape

I want to get in shape because my health and for myself. I had been overweight since I gained 80 lbs. when I had my daughter 21 years ago. I didn't lose the weight and over the years it had yo-yoed up and down and finally was resting over 200 lbs. A year ago I found I had creeped a few points over into diabetes and high blood pressure. I was already trying to lose some listening to self hypnosis cds. The doctor put me on diabetes meds and blood pressure meds and I cut out sugar, white bread, etc. Then I went on Atkins. I stayed on the Atkins induction diet for a year or so, only straying away every few weeks for a big bowl of popcorn while we watched our favorite old science fiction/horror "B" movies on Saturday nights and the occasional bite or two of forbidden potatoes or corn while at Sunday dinner at my husband's mother's house.
I lost 50 lbs. in about 8 months and then stalled at 150.
It would go up a few lbs. and down a few pounds but I was getting really tired of seeing 150 on the dial.
That is when I came here to chart my eating habits and changed to the GI diet. It gave me more choices and lowered the fat and calories that I was eating on Atkins.
Don't get me wrong, I think Atkins is great and it works, but I had come to a plateau and needed a change to see if it would give my metabolism a push.
So this is about 3-4 weeks into the new diet and I have lost about 3 lbs. So at least it has moved BELOW the 150 mark and I feel like it will continue. It is slower than the weight loss I experienced at first, so that is a little frustrating, but it was stuck and now it is moving again. I am happy with that.
I just got married in April and after my former husband passed away suddenly at only 47 years old, I realize that you never know how long you have to walk around on this planet so you have to make the most of the years you have left. I want to stay healthy to be able to spend many more years with my wonderful new husband and make up for all the years we missed. I also want to be healthy to be with my beautiful daughter and grandson for as long as possible. They are the three loves of my life, My husband, my daughter and my grandson. I want to be here with them a long, long time. Being healthy can help me realize that dream.
I want to give everyone an heads up about a great place to get all the diets, menus and shopping lists: ANNE COLLINS it is a site from the UK and it is $19 a year, well worth it. You can decide on which diet is good and get all the menus, shopping lists and everything. I don't have the link handy but if you google Anne Collins Diet, you will find it. Good Luck!

My Inspirations

  • Myself: I want to be heathy and stay looking good as long as possible.
  • My Husband: I want to spend time with him for a long time.
  • My Daughter: I want to be there for her and with her and my grandson.
