An important update about your MyFitnessPal account

Recently, we learned of reports of MyFitnessPal users receiving spam at the email address tied to their MyFitnessPal account. We take security and privacy very seriously and as a result, we immediately formed a security task force and hired a professional security firm to conduct a thorough investigation to see whether our systems had been breached.

As of today, here’s what our investigation has yielded: we did not find any evidence that passwords or other personal information were compromised. However, we did find a way through which someone could have obtained user email addresses. We worked quickly to fix the issue, and put several additional security measures in place to help prevent similar incidents in the future. We will continue to be vigilant to protect your information.

As always, please be careful about responding to email communications from people claiming to be employees of MyFitnessPal. In particular, remember that no MyFitnessPal employee will ever ask you for your password or other sensitive information. If you wish to change your MyFitnessPal password, you may easily do so by following these instructions.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our security team at

Well done. While I've not seen any spam as a result of being on here, I have had that experience in the past with other sites. None handled it well. Again, THANKS!!

Always a good sign when you see a site just come out and tell it how it is. Thanks for taking a proactive approach to this!

Please, details on how someone could have (did) obtain user email addresses. Or tell Brian Krebs and he'll let everyone know.
Anonymous wrote 19 months ago:
the spam is insane, worthless company to let this happen or lie and sell our details!
Anonymous wrote 18 months ago:
Yeah and how does that help me from all the spam I received today at my unique mfp email?

I too have a unique email address used only for your service. Please don't say you take things seriously and not be open with people who trust your service. If you hired a "professional security firm" to conduct a thorough investigation please name the firm so we as customers can make our own judgement as to the reputation of the company. Further, in the interest of good faith, once the exposures you found and fixed the issue and added additional controls you should explain were a the issue was and how you fixed it. You should also tell us what you are doing on a proactive basis to manage the security of your customers data.... ie. are you now encrypting data at rest? We all await your response.

Well this explains why I'm getting Virus E-Mails being sent to this account's E-Mail.

I too have a unique email address only used for this site and have received numerous spam emails since I signed up here several years ago. I agree with anonymous two posts above this one. Be open about the firm you used, what you found, and how you fixed it, because from what I see, you haven't really fixed anything but your image.

How about get rid of this crap from PlasaNet which freezes my ap (thought was real email from fitnesspal or one of my buddies) when clicked.

Be more selective of who you sell adspace too. Fitness pal is now just another junk ap.
