A Year Without

Inspired by the fantastical foraubs, I have decided to make 2013 my Year Without. That means each month, I’ll choose to give up something...and go without it for a full month. I had kind of a hard time picking out what I was going to give up this month, thus why it’s the Third and I’m just making a decision. I thought about doing soda for the whole month, but since I so rarely drink soda anymore, it didn’t seem like much of a challenge. I also thought about giving up all fast food, but the problem with that is that the extended family loves going to Wendy’s on Sundays for lunch, and I don’t want to miss out on those times. I thought about chocolate, but let’s get real. That’s just not going to happen. Ever. So after looking over my food diary for the past few weeks, I decided to give up Subway. Sure, Subway is like fast food’s gift to the dieter…you can do Subway in a really healthy way.  And sometimes I do…but what I realized after perusing my diary is that I often choose to make Subway NOT healthy. I order the footlong. I get regular potato chips instead of baked. I sometimes get a cookie. Without the cookie, that’s a 1000-calorie meal. With the cookie, I’m skirting 1,200. Now granted, if I do that, I rarely will eat much more during the day, and it almost never makes me go over on my calories. But I think for me, it’s time to stop eating 2/3 or more of my calories in a single sitting. At least on a once-a-week basis. So Subway, dear friend, I shall not be eating any of your fabulousness for the rest of January. Here we go!

It's funny I am doing that too with the goal for each month so I don't feel over whelmed. Mine is fast food this month because it seems like we have had entirely way too much fast food stuff in the past two months. I got my meal plans going on so it's all good now. :)Good luck on your goal!

Sadly Subway isn't always so healthy. they have soo many unhealthy options, its ehh.. I prefer Jimmy Johns over Subway. We drive 25 minutes once a month to have Jimmy Johns. My problem is I dont like too many veggies, so I typically feel that a sub is a waste of money. But at Jimmy Johns they only charge you for the meat if you dont get veggies. :) I wish you luck in your challenge for this month. :)

A good friend told me about his goals to make changes on a weekly basis. Each week, he introduces a new change... like writing in a journal every day. If he isn't comfortable by the end of the week, he repeats the week. If he is, he adds something new. For me, this has been journaling, getting to the gym every day (or at least doing 30 min of cardio), tracking me food, etc. The weekly thing works!

Subway can be tricky, I have decided that if I eat at subway, I'll take off the top layer of bread as their 6" is actually 3 serving of bread. Even the baked chips are are 2 servings for one bag, so I wont eat those. Luckily I do love veggies, so I can fill my sandwich with those and add oil and vinegar and some spicy mustard and pepper. That cuts out a lot of calories. I also cut out the cheese. Good luck with your goals and I hope you end up with 12 things at the end of the year you are able to live with out!
