Stop Your Sweet Cravings With Grapefruit Oil

If you have a craving for sweets there is an easy natural way to curb it without ingesting anyting, now do not laugh, I am DEAD serious...

Grapefruit is known as a "dieter's friend" and is recommended for treating eating disorders and obesity issues. The bright, crisp aroma of this essential oil energizes and uplifts your spirit. The vapors stimulate neurotransmitters that produce feelings of euphoria. The layers of scent you experience from grapefruit oil can’t help but make you smile. It’s an oil packed with vitality and zing, which makes it ideal for treating feelings of stress and fatigue, while its cleansing ability is perfect for treating oily, congested skin. It is inexpensive to buy and grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) essential oil blends well with frankincense, geranium and bergamot to do a lot more then just curve cravings!

HOW TO USE GRAPEFRUIT ESSENTIAL OIL TO CURB CRAVINGS:

Dispense 1-3 drops of Grapefruit into the palm of your hand. Make sure to use buy 100% NATURAL certified organic oil from the rind of the fruit because pesticides adhere to your skin and are not easily washed off. There are many cheap chemical copies of essential oils available, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results always use ethically wide crafted or pure, organic essential oils that are pesticide free (sold at most health food store, amazon.com and other websites)

Rub the palms of your hands together vigorously, cup your hands together and slowly inhale the Grapefruit aroma. You can easily adjust the intensity of the aroma by increasing or decreasing the distance between your hands and nose.
Breathe in the aromatic scent of the oil 5-20 minutes before eating. Be sure to drink an 8 ounce glass of water of pure fresh water after inhalation of the oils.

Blending it with wild crafted Patchouli essential oil can enhance Grapefruit's effect as a natural appetite suppressant.
Use these same instructions to control sweet cravings with that as well.

Grapefruit is also recommended for enhancing one's self esteem and definitely gives you an added sense of "I can do it" power! I've used it  to help diminish my cravings, but also helped improve my digestion and it has been said that it can help with metabolism.

Other Things you can do with grapefruit oil:

GRAPEFRUIT EXFOLIATING SCRUB

This scrub will help tone the skin and boost circulation. Once prepared, the mixture keeps for 6 months; place the contents in a dark jar to preserve the qualities of the grapefruit oil. I find it useful to label aromatherapy recipes and make a note of the expiry date, as a reminder.
You will need:
  • 3 ounces of fine sea salt
  • 10 drops of grapefruit essential oil
  • Pour the carrier oil into a glass bowl for blending, add the grapefruit oil, and then add the sea salt in stages, stirring until a thick paste is formed. Add more sweet almond oil if you prefer a looser consistency.
Massage the scrub in a circular motion directly onto your skin, paying special attention to problem areas. Rinse off with warm water.
*Do no use this scrub on sensitive or inflamed skin.

    GRAPEFRUIT SHAMPOO

If your hair gets greasy quickly, then this recipe is for you. Grapefruit will rid your scalp of impurities and residual styling products - without drying your hair. Grapefruit also promotes hair growth, so it’s especially helpful if your hair is in need of a pick me up.
    You will need:
    • 5ml (approximately 1 teaspoon) of gentle, fragrance free shampoo (available from most health shops)
  • 1 drop of grapefruit essential oil
  • Combine the shampoo and essential oil together, once prepared, massage gently into the scalp with fingertips. Rinse as normal.

    MOOD-BOOST BLEND

If you suffer with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) then grapefruit and bergamot are particularly helpful during the winter months. This blend will help boost motivation and ease feelings of lethargy.
For times when you need to revive and lift your spirits, this blend is also helpful.
Once prepared (as below) use as all-over body massage. Starting at your feet, use upward strokes to massage the blend, working towards your heart. Or simply dab on pulse points, when you're on the go.
    You will need:
    • 20ml of sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil
  • 2 drops of bergamot essential oil
  • 3 drops of grapefruit essential oil
  • Pour the carrier oil into a glass jug, add the essential oils and stir. Decant the liquid into a dark bottle for storage. This blend will keep for 6 months and makes enough for two full body massages.

OTHER USES FOR GRAPEFRUIT ESSENTIAL OIL

    • Hair growth: Add 2 drops of grapefruit essential oil to 8 ml (just under one tablespoon) of jojoba and stir the blend. Massage the liquid into your scalp, using a circular motion with your fingertips. Leave for 30 minutes and then wash your hair with a gentle shampoo.
  • Nail growth: Combine 1 drop of grapefruit essential oil with 10ml of sweet almond oil. Massage the blend into the nail bed, with upwards strokes towards the nail.

  • TIPS ON USING ESSENTIAL OILS

    • Decant your favourite essential oil blend into a rollette (roll-on bottle) so you can take it with you when you're on the go.
  • Avoid using essential oils which stimulate at night, for example rosemary and peppermint, instead opt for oils which relax, such as vetiver and frankincense.
  • When blending essential oils, pour your carrier oil (base oil) into your blending bowl first and then add the essential oils.
  • ESSENTIAL OIL HEALTH AND SAFETY

As with all essential oils, it's important to ensure that a blend and/or treatment is appropriate for your personal use.
Safety guidelines when using grapefruit essential oil are:
    • Non-toxic
  • Non-irritant
  • Non-sensitizing
  • Exposure to strong sunlight or UV light within 24 hours of use may result in skin irritatio
