Marathon Training: Week 6

This is a little late but I figure late is better than never!  Week 6 was a cut back week in the training schedule so there was nothing too out of the norm as far as runs here.

Monday – Rest (it was a busy weekend with Birthday’s so it was niiiccceee to sleep in)

Tuesday-3.1 at (30:47).  This ended January with 100.5 total running miles! I am very happy to cross over to the 3 digits

Wednesday- 3.1 (30:16)

Thursday- elliptical 65 minutes

Friday- 6.2 (1:04) early morning  run before heading down to Pensacola, FL.  I kinda planned to run a 10k this day because I knew we would be traveling and I wasn’t sure how the food situation would be.  We mentioned stopping at Chik fil a on the way down and I was nervous about all the calories.  Before today I have not eaten fast food (besides Subway but I don’t count that) in 3 year!!! Not kidding!! So yeah….I got a Grilled chicken and sandwich and enjoyed some waffle fries….yumm!  Don’t know if I will make it another 3 years!

Saturday- 15k race (Double Bridge Run) 1:33:28 and a PR!!!!!  This race was GREAT!! We had to get up at an early 4:30 because we had to take a shuttle to the race. I am totally NOT a morning person. This makes me nervous for when I have kids and don’t have a choice!!  Anyways, plenty of time to watch the sunrise before the race started at 7.  We (Bethany, Autum and I) decided to put ourselves in the 10 mm group and see what happened.   I really wanted to make a PR, but I also knew that I didn’t want to hurt myself because we had a 14 miler coming up in a few days.  We started off the race doing a sub 10mm and it felt great!  Autum decided that she wanted to take it a little slower so we told her we would see her at the end.  The humidity was thick but I felt like the wind almost counteracted it.  There were 2 bridges (hence the race name) and they weren’t as bad as I was expecting EXCEPT for the headwind!  Holy moly…it didn’t even feel like we were going down because there was so much wind resistance.  We tried a new gu (Peanut butter thanks to Melissa’s suggestion) and it was actually pretty darn good! I think I will be using that flavor again.  I reeeallllyyyy wanted to get a race PR so just as we hit mile 9 and I wanted to sprint the last .3 so I decided to go ahead and was very happy with my time!  We enjoyed a nice after party where I tried to pretend I liked beer (just can’t get the taste for it) and hung out on the beach for a bit mingling with the other racers. It was a great race and a fun time!  We went around Pensacola the rest of the day and enjoyed some local eateries that night…..and drinks……oh the drinks.  I am still a lightweight and just can’t handle my alcohol.  I had this massive green drink and felt it like a quarter of the way through it….probably shouldn’t have finished it.  Let’s just say I spent some quality time on the hotel floor bathroom and had a date with the toilet….ugh.

Sunday- Rest.  We drove back to Atlanta today and had the superbowl to look forward to so not time for exercise.  Plus I was nursing a hangover so I had not one but 2 bagels to help the tummy.  It was actually the best food!

Starting week 7 with the short runs no longer being 3 miles but 4 and have a long run of 14 miles tomorrow.  I really feel like I’m in marathon training now.  I’m carb loading like a mad woman today and I’m hoping that will help with my energy tomorrow.  Can’t wait to conquer the new milage!  Hope everyone is having a great week so far! J

Awww!! Sorry to hear about your hangover but bagels and/or greasy food is the best trick! You are doing awesome! Can't wait to grow up and be just like you!! :)

Even though this was a cut back week, it was a pretty awesome 7 days! Except for the whole hangover part. Can't wait to really start ramping up and getting to new mileage. Yay!!

Great Job. Love reading your training information. I did my first marathon in Oct 2011 in Columbus Ohio at age 55. Such a great feeling. Keep up the great work and keep us posted :)
