Marathon Training: Week 12!

6 weeks left!!! Totally eeeking out over here!!! =)  This was a cutback week with a half marathon being our long run, did not mind one bit!

 Monday- REST

Tuesday- 5.2 miles (54:16)  Legs were tired and just wasn’t mentally feeling it today.  I had to really push through the run.

Wednesday- 8 miles virtually with Lisa! (1:22:25)

Thursday- 65 minutes elliptical

Friday -5.5 miles (56:22)  Quick run before 13.1 pedi and expo time!

Saturday-3.7 walk (79 mins) with my friend Beth to keep the legs loose.

Sunday- Half marathon (13.3 miles on Run Keeper at 2:31:25).  I have decided I don’t think I will ever run a half (or full) marathon again unless it’s a big city race.  I absolutely loved this race, the energy from it, the crowd support, the people, gu, organization, medals, wet/dry towels at the finish…the list goes on.  The only negative was the early morning.  Having to get up at 4:05am for a 7:00 start time is a little rough but I think that’s all part of it.   So I met B at her house around 5:20 am and we were on our way down to Atlanta with 14,000 other runners!  Parking was a little congested but once we found our lot we had to only walk 3 blocks to our start corral, not bad!  We decided that were going to live it up a little on this race and wear color coordinating tu tu’s….yes, we are “those” girls.  We both felt a little weird putting them on at first but then we just decided we are going for it and owning it! Let me tell you, we got SOOO many comments on the tu tu’s! So many that we actually started counting the comments during the half and made a game of it…..we got up to 98!!! Go us, we felt like celebrities! =)  So once we started the race and saw how many people were running we decided that we were going to treat this as a training run since we have a 19 miler coming up this Friday.  It’s a good thing we decided on this early on because 4 miles in the water hit both of us and we had to make a potty stop.  Yeah, there was now no chance of a PR, so we decided we were going to take it easy and just enjoy the race.  We fueled at mile 4 and then kept going, talking and interacting with people along the way.  We say a funny sign that said “run quietly, I’m still hung over” hehe.  The split for the half marathon/marathon was at mile 7.  We of course went the half way but I have to tell you I was a little jealous of the people heading towards the “marathon” sign.  It made me really think that the next time we will be running a race like this…we will be running towards the “marathon” sign.  I’m so excited!  We had some hills in the race (climb of 1088) but we were surprisingly feeling great.  I don’t know if it was the slower pace or the fact that we always run hills in our training runs, but we actually didn’t dread them.  This gives us hope that Nashville *hopefully* won’t be as bad hill wise as everyone is saying.    Anyways, the rest of the race was great with people cheering along the way, yelling out “go tu tu’s, love the tu tu’s, ect” yeah we were definitely hamming it up.  We even said at the end that we would definitely consider volunteering for this race and possibly signing up for the full in the future.

This week our week is cut back with our mid week runs only being 5 miles….yay!  We are tackling 19 miles for the first time on Friday and I’m actually really looking forward to it.  Then we have some people coming into town to run their first 5k on with us on Saturday for the Atlanta Women’s 5k, very excited!!

Hope everyone has a  great week!
