Marathon Training: Week 10!
I can’t believe we just finished week 10!!! How did this happen? We only have 8 weeks left?? What?! This week in review:
Tuesday-8.1 miles (1:24:45). I ran 8 today because I knew I was going to be heading to dinner with my mom and brother at Applebee’s. I had something on the under 550 menu but holy sodium!!! It was like 3,000+ just for my one meal (sizzling shrimp and broccoli). I’m a runner and runners need sodium, right? That’s at least what I told myself, lol.
Wednesday-4 miles (42:16) AND ending February with 125.2 running miles….VERY HAPPY!
Thursday-Cross-training (elliptical) 65 minutes plus I started Lisa’s crazy 31 days of abs for March!
Friday- I did my abs before my long run because I knew it would not happen after and 18 mile run (3:28:56)!!!!! So this run started out being a 17 mile run and we really had no intension of adding the extra mile. We alternate starting at Bethany’s house or mine and this week she was up. She mapped out a new route that had us doing some trail running along the Chattahoochee River and I was totally excited for the change! So I meet her at her house at 8:30 and she tells her hubby we should be back around 12-12:30, if we are not back by 1 then something is wrong. Just her saying that was a shock to me…..3+ hours of running ahead….woah! So we were off and started off great, (keeping our pace around 11-11:30mm is our goal for long runs), and just chatted and enjoyed the new route. We got to down to the river part and there was construction going on so there was a lot of confusion. We actually missed the trail entrance and went about .25-.5 further to this other trail entrance. We stopped and looked at the map and I was little weary because there was no one parked there and it looked like it had us going straight for the woods, lol! It was then B realized we missed it and had to cross the river and go to the previous trail which was flat, and had ton of people…much better! The trail was great because we found gold on the trail (water fountain) and could fill up our water bottles. It was soooo humid this day and we were trying to ration our water and it was great to wash off the salt crust from our face. We also found bathrooms at the end of the trail…..score! We will definitely be using this route (without the detour) again! =) It was while we were on the trail we realized it looked like we were going to be walking the last mile to get back to her house so we should just push to do the extra mile and shoot for 18 today! This made sense because we knew we weren’t going to be able to run together next week due to work schedule….and we would only have to run 17 solo, that should be easy, right?!? Hah. Soooo that was our plan and we were sticking to it! We left the trail and had a few miles of flat road and knew we had a mega MEGA hill coming up (with more construction). I’m not going to lie, it was hard but we just single filed it and made our way up slowly but surely. We came to our last road close to 13 miles and we had to wait at a stop light (which seemed like forever) at 13.5. We tried to move and stretch the best we could but our legs started to stiff up. We knew we were on the home stretch but legs were definitely getting tired. This is what we call “don’t talk to me” miles, lol. So we listened to our music and hit the new miles, 16, 17, one more to go…we so got this and we did! I felt soooo proud of us and this really made me believe that 26.2 will be possible. Yes, I was done mentally running at 18, yes my legs were tired, yes I was starting to count the minutes….but if I HAD to I could have run the extra 8 right there and then….so I KNOW in it will be possible in 8 weeks. I’m getting excited!
Saturday- 45 minute elliptical for recovery plus day 2 of abs.
Sunday-4.5 miles (49:28). It was my first run breaking in my marathon shoes…..these babies are nnniiiiiccceeee, plus day 3 of abs!
So this week due to schedule conflict Bethany and I will have to run our long run solo. I am totally sad about this! I have never run anything over 10 by myself and I seriously think this run is going to take some mental strength. I know I can physically run it because we just conquered 18 so 17 “should” be a piece of cake. Yikes, I’m not going to lie….I’m a little scared but I made sure I have plenty of water and bathroom stops on the route. This may even be the week I treat myself to a DQ blizzard or coldstone after the run….I do run better when I have some yummy food to look forward to! =) I have a few days to amp myself up.Hope everyone has a great week!
