I realized something today as I was perusing the forums. When I posted something, I looked over at my little user info and saw that I've been a member since July 2008. My ticker says that I've lost 36 pounds. While both of those things are great, it's really hard to forget that I stll have about 50 pounds or so to go before I'm at a comfortable weight.
So what have I been doing the past three years?
Well, the question is more what I haven't been doing. I haven't been exercising regularly. During the few periods where I exercised consistently over the last three years, I've definitely seen more weight loss so it's impossible to say there's no correlation between weight loss and exercise. I haven't been consistently eating healthy, and when I go on my occassional dietary vacations I definitely come back weighing a little bit more.
Because of my inconsistencies, I've spent the last three years going back and forth. One day down three pounds, the next day up four. How do you win when that's your pattern?
The answer is, of course, that you don't win.
Granted, I spent 10 months being pregnant. Okay. So now we're talking about 2 years. Losing only 36 pounds in two years when you have so much to lose is not really an indicator that you're giving it your all, and I will honestly say that I haven't been.
But I'm ready for that to change. I've tried so many diets and so many exercise plans, from the moderate to the extreme. I'm ready for a happy medium that I can keep up with. I'm ready to have healthy food in my fridge and a gym bag in my car. I'm ready to get started - for real this time.
Who's with me?
