The Prodigals Return..... CELEBRATE IT!!
............It is told in the Bible (Luke 15:11) the story of the prodigal son. The one who requested from his father his share of the fortune before the father died, and then left immediately and wasted it all on wild living and silliness. Returning with his head low in shame, he was instead greeted by his father with celebration and Glory because he was lost and found himself again.
Ok ok,, enough of the preaching, here's the lesson. It is the seed we plant in the minds of those we raise, mentor, or partner with that will one day germinate, grow, and blossom. When we speak to our kids, and we say "you're not even listening" They are. Think back to the many lessons you have been taught over the years and the many times whether you admitted it out loud or just in your mind....."They were right" or They tried to tell me. Case in point, My kids both hit a rebellious streak at different ages, and pretty much "knew it all" and didn't need my help, nor want it.... As I grew more and more frustrated at watching them with my hands essentially tied, I was quickly reminded of the words both my parents said in my younger years.... " Your day is coming"
I've been through it with my kids....My Parents went through it with me... and I'm sure my kids will go through it as well. (At least I HOPE they do!) So you are saying "What in the wide world of sports has this got to do with weight loss???" Well, for those with their head in the fog, let me enlighten you.
I have been going through a period of "prodigalism" ( is that a word?) meaning those I valued the most, communicated with the most, and "idolized" the most in MFP have "finished" packed up and left on their own, closed their accounts, and disappeared into the sunset without as much as a goodbye. ( The Bible also discusses Idolizing but I'll let you loo it up if you like!) I began to feel alone, bored, and decided maybe it was time for me to walk as well. But I reasoned with myself that I needed to stay. I am not finished. I am not only here for me, but I have a RESPONSIBILITY to encourage and support the many who "follow me" in my various friends lists. We came here for accountability. What better accountability is there when people are counting on that daily message you provide? So I pressed on knowing that I had planted the seed, and if those seeds were to germinate and grow, then the prodigals would one day return.
In the past two weeks I have approved a few requests of people returning to once again reclaim what they had and enjoyed, and wanted me back... ( Hell I wanted them back too!!) and while I know in my mind it had to be a tough step for them to return and ask again to be on the list, they have to understand how badly I wanted them there to begin with...
Here's the Lesson for this week:
Remember.... You will get what you want if you help enough people get what THEY want... Quit being so selfish in your LIFE journey.. (Notice I didn't say weightloss)
SHARE.... Share the knowlege you have gained. Every Morning when I pray, one of those prayers goes something like this:
" Lord I pray for that person whose back is against the wall. They don't know where to turn, they don't know what to do... Lord I've been there, and I want to be there to offer Hope and Testimony that will along with your hand, give them peace and more importantly another breath....Lord put that person in my path today and allow me to serve..."
Make your goal a giving one.. Dedicate yourself to serving others...and I promise you.... you will see your results as well.. But when they give up and walk away, remember.... you planted a seed and whether or not they will return, be ready for that one day it happens and celebrate it! Cheers.
