SHUT UP ABOUT NET ALREADY!!!

I figured the title will get some people to read this. I hope I share enough information to make it worthwhile. Know in advance.....I'm going to piss some of you off. But the "some of you" that get pissed off are the "some of you"  that continually whine and moan about nothing happening when you know already that it's your fault..... This blogpost is not a powderpuff candy coat....It's a jumpstart for anyone who's halffasting it (Snicker) The Very small percentage of you (less than 1%) that have a medical issue preventing your weightloss should be under professional training and care anyway. So don't hatemail me about being insensitive please, cause I won't acknowledge it..

Listen people.... for those of you who like me are/were stuck sometimes you just have to step back and REMEMBER what gave you results. There's 14million "experts" on MFP and they will give you 14 million reasons if you ask.. That being said..  One of the nicest things about MFP is the fact that every log, every Blog, and every weigh in you have done thus far is saved. Sometimes you have to also IGNORE some of the people that verbally don't like your methods... What's the worst that will happen? They dump you....  Oh well. stuff happens

But this crap of losing weight IS NOT EFFING Rocket science... The FITBIT is a great tool, I use mine every day! But I don't swear by it's numbers.  The Body media is a Great tool. every "great tool" that is available worksto a certain extent if you TAKE THE TIME to use it correctly!!  If you pull it out of the box, strap it on, turn it on, and do what it says without any study, research, calibration, and reading, you will overeat, you will have inaccurate burn numbers, and you will skew your program to the point you Gain instead of lose.  That being said NONE of them are REQUIRED for you to lose weight.  The more science you put into it, the more tools you use, the more different references you read the more you will get FRUSTRATED...  (Did you read my last blog??  "Clutterbrain"  So let me lay it out again in simple easy to understand terms.

1) You need to fuel the engine to burn. First thing in the Morning.  That means water, and food.   You people who constantly skip breakfast?  Don't even post how frustrated you are about the lack of weightloss..I'm not gonna say "it's ok......"  It's your habit.  Break it!  The Payoff:  You have energy. You are awake and more ready for the day, and you are burning calories straight out of bed.

2) You need 6-8 hrs of sleep Minimum.... I have finally managed to get my avg over 6. it's been hard, but I'm shooting for 7 now.  The payoff? I feel better, I drive 500 miles again without a nap, and I sleep well even with my Cpap machine..

3) You need water.... Not Water with Crystal light.. not black coffee.. not Powerade... QUIT CHEATING THE SYSTEM cause you don't like it...It won't work..You can have All OF those during your day if you want them, but only IN ADDITION to WATER, Plain, Filtered or bottled and COLD. The formula I use?  1/2 my body weight in ounces per day. The payoff:  Your body works to heat up the cold water you poured in. That burns calories.  You are hydrating and protecting organs.. and you are flushing out toxins and "moving" regularly..  Also remember... the metabolism works on sugar first fat cells second.. What do YOU want it to focus on?? Then do it!

4) You need to move. (exercise)  You don't need a fancy gym membership. You can set up your own circuit training at home. Got stairs? use them. No Stairs? Get a pallet or a wood box.  (Stepping arobics)  Got a bike? Got a jump rope? Use it... I can do 6 Jumps before I fail and start over.  Tomorrow I'll do 7.... in a month I'll be speedroping.. Get the picture?  Just move. GET OFF THE COMPUTER and the forums.....They WONT LOSE THE POUNDS FOR YOU... Besides (ladies) you're butts are getting flat in that chair, and we men all just know how much hearing that will tick you off...(We men like looking) I won't lie so GET UP and MOVE!

Finally a word about Net and Deficit.... Quit making hay with me about how big my deficit is on my diet.  Here's what WORKS for me...   As long as my net is above a healthy range (For me about 12-1400) then I don't care if I have a defecit of 800-1000. Remember... the avg defecit MFP uses they DON'T show you is around 500.  So if you have 600 cals leftover you actually have about an 1100 deficit for the day.  That's ok as long as my Net is still above "my Minimum" I will bust my butt for a good deficit every day!!  If you cheat on your logs...the only person you cheat is yourself.. Won't hurt us a bit I can tell you.. Some day's my net is even low.. but here is something I want you to read and then get off my butt about my numbers.

<pasted>

YOU SAY: “It’s always bad to lose a lot of weight quickly.” I SAY: The fact is, if you are otherwise healthy, a brief period of rapid weight loss while dieting is reasonably safe. Yes, there can be problems, the most troubling being gallstones; but these only happen in about 12 percent of extremely obese patients on very low calorie diets for long periods of time. I’m going to assume that doesn’t describe you. If it does, go easy. But generally, if you take a multivitamin, hydrate, and make sure you get enough protein and potassium, you’ll be fine. And when you look at the scale, you’ll get that added psychological boost to keep going.

Harper, Bob; Critser, Greg (2012-05-15). The Skinny Rules: The Simple, Nonnegotiable Principles for Getting to Thin (p. 2). Random House, Inc.. Kindle Edition.  <snip>

So fair warning....No more crap about my defecit....Drop me if you're not happy with it.  I'm losing weight, I'm eating clean, and I'm exercising.   When I started a year ago, I said I would not eat back more than 50% of my exercise cals... The reason?? Yes I believe you DO have to refuel after a workout, but I'm not convinced in the science nor the numbers that my "tools" puts up as my burn rate.  Guess what?  I went back to that policy and I'm losing again...Surprise......

Now my disclaimer.  everyone is different. My objective here is not to tell you how to run your numbers.  It is merely to tell you if you're frustrated...GO BACK TO BASICS....See what you were doing before when you pulled off weight...and try it again.... Hell it just might work!  and as always remember.......I BELIEVE IN YOU!!  #NoExcuses

I agree, I only give you crap when your total is mighty low for a fella your size. Don't really care too much about deficit anymore, those of us that have been here awhile know how much good we need, if that means our deficit is high, well, la, de, da! Love ya!

Very much "Like." :D I love the part about going back to basics. For me, this is a life-long change, and guess what? Along life's natural path, you learn! Sometimes you learn that something you've tried isn't working for you!!! Well, it's not a "set-back!" Take it, and Learn from it, and keep a good attitude.

I like this. You are totally right - it isn't about what everyone thinks we should be doing - it's about what works for us. And to be honest, you hit home with a couple points for me. I don't currently eat breakfast, but I also do not preach that others should do the same, nor do I say that a stall in weight loss is anyone/anything's fault but mine. So, thank you for the wake up call. It IS very easy - just break the habit. Just do what you need to do. You always have very (blunt) clear words to say! That is why I KEEP you as a friend!!

I started back to basics today, and ordered a fitbit, I have may only have around 10 pounds to go but I need to stop getting so comfortable, sneaking the extra square of chocolate, I set myself some goals and I WILL get there with extra exercise and healthy food!!!!

I don't eat back my calories either!! I don't believe calorie burns are trustworthy enough to eat it all back coz u could be massively over eating! Well done on standing up for yourself!

You make many valid points, as usual. Not sure why you have to hate on my Crystal Light though. ;) Seriously, nice post, Lee! Keep up the good work.

Well this just proves what I've known for a while - you're bloody awesome :D And spot on!

I tend to think the whole "go with whatever works for YOU" thing works pretty well (provided it's not starvation or laxatives :P) but I definitely believe in breakfast. It's not for some but it made a huuuuuuge difference for me :)

Excellent tangent!

I actually don't LIKE that MFP "gives you back" the calories you burned. When I spent 2 years w/ a trainer and nutritionist, I NEVER calculated my burn back into my total cals for the day! It tricks me into thinking "I can eat more" when really, I did that work for a reason!
weston23 wrote 4 months ago:
Thanks for this :) Very informative. I am guilty of eating my exercise cals lately. Guess what. Enough is enough, and enough is too much :)
Going to add you :)
