I've met my goal, where do I go from here?

I've heard many people in my real life ask this and I've seen it many times on this site.

You've been working out, busting your butt for months (or maybe even years) and you finally hit your goal weight. Now what do you do? You've been so focused on weight loss that when you achieve your goals, you aren't sure where to go next.

Transitioning from weight loss to maintenance isn't easy. It takes time to change your mindset from "Lose. Lose. Lose" to "Maintain. Maintain. Maintain". A lot of people find it easier to set new goals - whether they be strength training goals, to run a 1/2 marathon, or whatever. I found that for me, simply learning to "live" was a goal I needed to achieve when I hit my goal weight and moved into maintenance. I had to learn to enjoy life again.

It wasn't easy and it took a lot of time. I was still dedicated to keeping the weight off, so I had to focus on how to loosen up and learn to enjoy life all while still keeping the weight off.

So, if you're getting close to your weight loss/fitness goals and are starting to wonder "What's next?" think about it NOW. Figure out what you really want to achieve when you stop actively losing weight.

Do you want to run a 1/2 marathon? Do you want to be able to bench press your body weight? Or do you just want to live your life at the smaller weight? Will you continue working out/going to the gym? Or are you really not that interested in working out and would like to slowly wean your body off that? There aren't any right nor wrong answers to any of these questions - it is all about figuring out what will make YOU happy.

Amen. Couldn't have said it better or more correctly myself. Very well done. What's next...well for now, thoughts of sharing time and workouts, and relaxing watching TV, or by a lake. That's what would make me happy...but as it is..working out helps make me feel better about being me! LOL

I am so glad you've overcome your issues with obsessing over calories and are now starting to live your life without the anxiety of it all. I am planning on reaching my goal weight october/novemberish. I have thought of this myself and truly think that once I get the hang of maintenance, I will be fine and will just continue setting fitness goals. I have more of a sense of fulfillment when I reach those goals rather than a number on the scale.
