The DREADED belly fat.

The whole point of me wanting to lose weight was to get rid of the belly. I wanted to take a step away from Mrs. Claus and a step towards some flat stomached gorgeousness. We will call my ab Goddess Natasha. There were many reasons I wanted to become Natasha. I wanted to make sure I prevented strain on my heart, I wanted to get rid of chub, i wanted to wear a bathing suit and not look like a keebler elf.

In the past, I would always start crunching like crazy, then promptly give up with a cupcake in one hand, a Coke in the other, and a bag of cheetos resting on my beach ball of a belly.  This time I actually did some research and learned I could not magically target zones. Instead, I changed my lifestyle, and lost the weight.

I dropped all of my goal weight and STILL had the dang belly. What is up with that? I stood on a rooftop and shouted to the world with a shaking fist: WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO SMOOTH YOU OUT!!!!!!!!!!  Am I destined to resemble a Honey Kissed Ham FOREVER?!?!?! Why does your body not let you TARGET ZOOONNNNEEESSS *make zones echo to get the right affect*

Apparently the answer, because yes of course I do have the secret weightloss answer you have all been wanting. This answer.... are you sitting on the edge of your seats??? The answer.. is time. Ugh. I know right? That is the worst answer EVER. But that's it. Time. You just have to keep at it. Keep working out. Keep eating right. Keep on keeping on with your bad self. And eventually, whenever it good and well feels like it, it will just start melting away.

In the past two months I have only lost 2 pounds, which is fine since I am not attempting to lose weight anyway. But i have lost FOUR inches of belly. FOUR. My stomach still has some more to go. It still has stretch marks that I call my "beauty baby marks" in front of my girls. But it is SHRINKING DANGIT! And I haven't done a single thing to encourage it! EUREKA! And yes, I will answer to Natasha!

You are oh so right girl, in the past I would try to just do ab work thinking that would work and it did not but after eating right and working out my belly is shrinking to.

thank you for that because I would have given up and started eating everything in sight out of frustration but I will stick to it and be patient.

Also, console yourself with the thought that all of us carry our fat somewhere. I'm an hourglass shape so I have awful flubbery upper arms and thighs (my thighs haven't seen the light of day for decades) and I have a double chin. But I've got a fairly flat tummy!

I guess you're probably an apple shape so enjoy your shapely arms and legs!

Thank you for this! It is good to know that it might melt away at SOME point.
Keep on keeping on with your bad self!

Inspiration, thank you for this, I to want my belly gone and wish I could target but we all know thats not possible, so I guess I'm in this for the long haul if I really want it gone. Thanks again and congrats on the 4 inches!!

LOL Great post! I know how you feel. I've lost most of the weight I wanted to, but ugh my belly is DISGUSTING.

Thanks for the reminder that it's not just me and that I have to keep on keeping on to get rid of it!

It's not really possible to "target" areas of your body you want to reduce. In fact, your body will take the longest to lose fat from areas that have had it the longest--in other words, if you gained belly fat first, you'll lose it last. Hang in there!

Strength training! Two kids and 61 pounds later my stomach is pretty close to flat, not quite but almost there. I'm telling you lifting and high protein, works.

Thanks for the post. I've had the big belly for several years and I don't know if I'll ever lose it at my age. But it gives me hope that maybe I will lose some of it at least...

I just posted a topic about how to get rid of belly fat, and then someone sent me a link to this blog. You've just inspired me to keep working out no matter how long it takes. I am almost content with my legs and arms, but my belly fat WILL NOT BUDGE. Thanks for inspiring me to not give up :)

It's nice to hear that someone else is having the same challenges as I am. My target area is my belly and especially my lower belly. It's frustrating to not see it go as fast as I would like it to but just hearing someone say that there is a solution is a relief. Thanks for your post!

Can I still blame my belly fat on my pregnancy? My youngest is 14- LOL! Thanks for this info tho- seriously! And great job on staying the course!

I love how you put some comedy into that because sometimes I can feel very negative about the whole thing, and I think the trick is staying positive or you will just give up! Congrats and I hope you and Natasha are very happy together! HAHA

Thanks for this. I have nearly reached my weight loss goal and my belly, well it still jiggles when I brush my teeth and I still look like a water balloon with a rubber band around the middle. I've gone from a size 18 to a size 10 and I don't feel like the skinny minny people are telling me I am. I do core exercises and while my shape has gotten smaller it has not changed into the shape I had visioned in the beginning. I was really feeling discouraged. Thanks, really needed the pick me up.

I soooo needed this! Just last night I grabbed a handful of belly chub and shook it, saying "go away, damn you!" while my husband just looked on and shook his head (he thinks I'm nuts on a good day!) I will persevere, keep on truckin', and look forward to that day where it finally goes away!!

This is great! Congratulations for losing 4 inches recently! That is major to your health! I started taking a weight training class in 10/11, twice a week. I don't see a difference, but I feel it. The pain in my back is gone! Anyway, I keep looking at my belly and finally asked the training (who runs marathons, trains others to run and volunteers for our town youth for soccer and track!!!) I said, how come your arms don't look like this or your belly? Her comment--I don't have any body fat.... S O, I have been taking a good look at my eating and I am hoping, over time, I will see a difference! signed-trying harder than I was last week and the week before that!

yes, my belly is the last to go, breasts are first. I have this freaking "Bagel" belly....it looks like I'm trying to smuggle a bagel under my skin.

I hate my stretch marks... but I LOVE your description of them. From now on I will try and think of them as my Babies Beauty Marks.

Motherhood is etched into my skin...
