I have seen the promised land...

So, back on New Year's day I began this new diet. This was my entry for January 2:
A new year means a new diet... I really need to lose weight. So, I found this crazy new internet diet - basically you're only supposed to eat things that are good for you. I know, crazy, right? That means no refined sugar, no heavily processed foods, basically nothing that I really like. It's not heavily restrictive, it just takes all the joy out of eating, thereby making you eat less.
It started yesterday. I made black eyed peas with pork loin and collard greens. I had bought some okra and Caleb convinced me to cook it like they do at Cuisine India, so I tried, and it was actually good. No Jiffy cornbread this year, instead I cooked some natural rice instead. All in all, very tasty.
I needed a goal - at 270 pounds, it seemed like a weight of 200 would be a worthwhile goal - I could still remember weighing 200, so it seemed like it was reasonable. I gave myself a year to lose these 70 pounds, which I thought was optimistic, since 1 pound a week is a more realistic goal.
This morning I weighed in at 201. After work I went to the gym determined to sweat away the remaining pound, and after - came home to this:

I won't weigh this in the morning, especially after the celebratory Indian feast and blueberry mojito I had for dinner, but in a day or two, I'll have my 70 pounds - in about 8 1/2 months. I'm pretty proud of myself, and fairly well amazed at how easy it's been - not counting this last month of Ramadan which has been a real trial.
So, my new goal is another 20 pounds, down to 180 pounds. I've been 180 before, and it's a good weight for me, especially if some of it is muscle.
Another thing you can see in that picture is my new Fitbit Aria scale - it came in today. It gives the weight and % body fat. I weighed myself about 20 times and my % body fat is at about 28% - well below the 30.5% that the calculators give me. This allows me to call myself "overweight" instead of "morbidly obese", my previous designation. Of course body fat estimates are problematic, but I'll take 28%.
And now I'm going to bed. One last day of Ramadan tomorrow.
