I hafta say, great topic for my first mfp blog entry.... awesome!
Tom weeks are always a little volitile for me because my body reacts differently almost every month. Last month, was very uneventful, no headaches, no cramps, no migraines, no nausea, nothing.. normal week for all intents and purposes. In like a lamb, and even out like a lamb. This month however, opposite story. This whole week has been one comedy of errors for the books. Last Friday I woke up with a sinus infection after 3 solid weeks of benadryl haze from spring tree allergy (after 5 years of shots, 3 weeks is NOTHING compared to past experience). Onto the antibiotics I went, and my 3x daily ritual of ibuprophen, decongestant, antihistamine and Airborne. The sinus infection went away pretty quick, leaving me after just a couple days with just a stuffy nose and some mild pressure, nothing to write home about. On comes tom, right on schedule, and within a couple days, on comes the expected migraine, on Tuesday afternoon, like clockwork. But this time it's different. I can't just sleep it off, or load up on drugs and caffeine. I have two kids to cart around for various extracurricular activities, so I need to be on top of my game... UGH! It was definitely fun driving across town with a bag in my lap in case I hurled! Thankfully the meds kicked in about an hour later and I was able to make it through the evening - barely. Wednesday was another adventure. Hoping to avoid the recurrence of my friend the migraine, I began the day with advil after breakfast (dr's recommendation to start taking it every day, 2 or 3 days, before tom arrives usually works, not this week!) and proceeded to start sneezing (allergies anyone?) because the weather finally got nice again and the oak trees burst into bloom... Well, in the course of a sneezing fit I twisted my back just the wrong way and caused the muscle under my right shoulder blade to spasm. I could've rolled over in bed the wrong way, or picked up a laundry basket, or just turned my neck the wrong way, I'm ALWAYS pulling these two muscles in my back. But this was different. This time it was so severe that I couldn't take a deep breath without feeling like someone had lunged and axe into my ribcage. Yippee!!! Just what I needed to add to my fun week! I did manage to get half way through a run on the treadmill, but finally had to stop because it was excruciatingly difficult to fill my lungs when I needed to... time for more advil, a rest on my back, on my bed, followed by a Vicaden to ease the pain. I had written off my workout at karate that night, and was really disappointed about it... :( Gave the vic a couple hours to work and was able to get up, cook dinner, kiss my kids off the bus, and decided that another vic before karate and I'd be ok for class as long as I took it easy... Wouldn't you know we did our 15 min circuit that night, cardio/weight mix, then intensive work on katas and even some sparring mixed in.. a little of everything...I was feeling confident, and hit the jumprope in the circuit for the first time in two years, and managed to get 16 jumps before succumbing to sabotage from my ponytail catching the rope! Definitely progress, but I might have to shave my head if I want to get proficient with that jumprope...anyone willing to pay to see it? :)
So class went fairly well. OH wait, lets not forget the pushups phase of the wonderful circuit...I like pushups, I'm good at them, planks on the other hand, suck. But I should've done planks! Kneeled down on the rubber mats, and proceeded to do a push up, inhale on the up, exhale on the down.. big mistake.. I planted myself right on a part of the floor where the mats have started to separate (they're 3 years old, starting to get deformed and out of shape) exhaled right into the crack and up comes allllll the dust and grime and disgustingness that's been stored in that crack and under the mats for who knows how long.. OMFG! now my eyes are full of gross grit and dust and I can't see! Great! Have hubby lead me to the bathroom, blind and wash out my eyes, wishing I hadn't even gotten out of bed by then... Later in the evening I would pull out all sorts of treasures from under my eye lids, including particles resembling the floor itself! eww! Home we went after managing to get through the rest of class...showered cleaned up, put the kids to bed, one's too hot, one has a headache, now the other has a headache, how the other is too hot... will this day PLEASE end?!! NOPE! In walks mr. migraine AGAIN! It came back with a vengeance last night at about 9, and by the time I went to bed, one half of my head was THROBBING, I was nauseas, AND the muscle spasm in my back was still bad, despite the two vicaden before karate . I got up at 5 am this morning ready to hurl, did, tried to eat a cereal bar, unsuccessfully...and tried to go back to sleep, but then the kids were up getting ready for school...took some ibuprophen, and tylenol and went back to bed when they got on the bus, till just now (noon), and the throbbing and nausea has finally subsided. Migraine is still a bit dull, but not nearly as bad..back spasm is pretty much gone, and it's lunch time, and I have NO idea what I want to eat...Oh wait, maybe nothing.. as I write this, the nausea is back.... and NO I am not pregnant! Why is it, that when the weather is crappy, rainy cloudy and overall incapable of letting me do any of the spring stuff outside that I need to do, I feel fine.. but as soon as the nice weather hits (this week) it has to be a tom week and I have to be sick with what feels like 15 different problems? I just have to ask.. WTF????
