Broke a crutch

About a week and a half ago, 2 days after running for 20 minutes for the first time EVER!, i went out for my first day of week 6 of C25K which meant two 8 minute runs with a 3 minute walk in the middle.  Obviously, after finishing 2 miles i thought it would be a drop in the hat…i was wrong.  I hit the road that morning and was huffing and puffing after only a couple of minutes.  I credited it to the cooler air of the morning and running on the road since my previous run was on a high school track made out of recycled rubber.  That became my crutch, thinking i was only going to run at night on that track if i was going to get through this.

I finished up week 6 on the track, which included a 25 minute run to finish the week and started week 7 with another 25 minutes on the same track.  Last night i went to the track and found the gates locked since tonight is the high school homecoming game and the field had been painted…i was bummed.  I said i would try to run in the morning, but in the back of my mind i was thinking about the previous 8 minute runs on the road and how hard these 2.5 miles would be; but said i would at least try.

I got up this morning, got my wife and kids out of the house for school and work and sat down for breakfast…thinking in i would have to run.  I turned on the TV, watched some stuff on the DVR and couldn’t get my run out of my head.  I just kept saying to myself, “I can’t do it on the road just yet, i’ll just run when i can later this weekend”…but i wasn’t convincing myself.  Finally, about 10am i decided it was now or never, i grabbed my running shoes and my MP3 player and hit the road.

Yep, it was harder than on the track. Yep, i think i got a bit more winded than i did on the track. Yep, it was a lot hotter in the sun than at night.  And yep, i did it!  I have been using that track as a crutch, thinking that was the only way i would get this done; WRONG!

I got in my 25 minute run and God is good!  I have a feeling it was His Holy Spirit speaking to my heart in that still small voice reminding me that this body is His temple and not doing anything was not cutting it.  Thank God for His convicting power!

I’m glad i did it, and i’ll be glad to get back on the track for another 25 minute run since it is a bit more gently on the knees…but i did it!

On other news, haven’t weighed today, may try tomorrow, but i did get my belt all the way to the last hole this morning!  Either i will have to buy a new belt soon or start making some new holes!  Loving it!
